Three of us created characters on Camlan recently as its the only option for us to play another realm together trying out the charaters we wanted to try to learn more about how classes from other realms work.
Before we started we read the information and CoC Mythic supplies about playing on this server in order to make sure we knew what the "rules" were. We used the game documents for the PvP server found at the Camelot Herald.
This document quotes Mythic saying.....
"You can also gain experience and cash from slaying your enemies, and lose cash (in the form of constitution loss) when you are killed.
The intention of Mythic Entertainment is for players on this server to be able to build one’s character solely through PvP combat should they so choose.
While guilds can unofficially ally with one another, there is nothing preventing anyone outside of your guild from attacking you at any time – save these limited exceptions:"
I have so far engaged in PvP only when I have been attacked first. My friends have however decided to plunge in a PvP when anyone cons blue and above to them.
They are receiving a barrage of abuse as a result even from orange and red cons.
Basically it has left everyone very confused indeed.
At levl 11 I am repeatedly killed by players who con purple to me (one shottted of course) and while I can see no point in them doing it as I con grey to them, it is a PvP server so to be expected.
But why are people being abused for killing legitimate targets on a PvP server when Mythic says that is what they are supposed to do?
The way things are its very confusing for new players to the extent that they are unlikely to stay on Camlan for long which will eventually mean no new high level players so the server will stagnate.
The problems are these:
Severe abuse for playing the game as the server is intended to be played is distressing for people.. it's a game and they go there to have fun not be seriously verbally abused or harrassed by griefers.
If people are unable to level up their chars on PvP then they have to level up on PvE.... HOWEVER.....
Every time we find a remote out of the way spot to PVE in teams of purples come running up and greykill for no reward, and quite often giving an xp death to add insult to injury. These spots are often a very long way from binds and after the umpteenth pointless ganking people tend to log in frustration.
My questions are these:
What is the actual etiquette about PvP on this server.
Is the grief from a limited number of players (morons) or can we expect it from everyone on the server in general.
Are the problems experienced throughout a character's career on Camlann, or is the problem just there at these low levels.
Is the problem to do with being unguilded and if so how does one get a guild because many seem to take only charactrs above 40 and there seems no way to get to 40..
Is the behaviour outlined above a deliberate effort to prevent new players from staying on this server because it has become some kind of "closed shop" for existing players.
Would welcome some answers from long term Camlann players.
Thanks
A very confused Lvl 11 Hero.
