Neverwinter Nights

Anyone else looking out for this game ?

AFAIK the basic game will come with a set "Official" adventure, in which case it would be like another Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale type game, however it offers much more.

The game also brings in the Third Edition of the D&D ruleset to CRPG, IMO this ruleset is the most "computer-friendly" one to date.

The multiplayer side allows someone to act as DM, and the addition of custom adventures using its built-in editor opens up a huge world of possibilities, in fact you can run your own adventures on your own server (it has a "server only" mode) and have something similar to a persistant world which you control.

NWN is not "massive", it will only allow for 64 players at a time, nevertheless, not only does it bring popular D&D games to the internet as though they were played with pen and paper, and it enables you to run your own online game world. The game will have a scripting language too, so you can change the rules and behaviour as you wish.

If you are waiting for NWN, do you intend to just play the SP game, or play MP, or design scenarios, or even run your own server (would BW even allow people to do this using their equipment) ?

Does anyone here still play pen and paper D&D ?

BarrysWorld will most likely be looking into supporting NWN servers. If they don't i'll be kicking some butt.

I play 3rd Ed DnD. I run one session as DM, and play in another.

Great fun.

If you want to get a head start on the modding of NWN, I suggest you check out the Neverwinter Vault. Lots of resourses for the scripting and one of the best places for news.

Also, yes, I used to play pen & paper D&D. Something I no longer have a chance to do which still annoys me :(

I've been checking around the varous NWN sites, one thing I don't need is scripting tuition, having been a programmer for nearly 20 years ! In any case, the basic language used on the sites is C/C++, I'd have thought that NWN will be using its own version of C (like Quake originally did).

ditto again, in fact ever since I started a family I gave up on regular D&D playing, I can only remember one Second Edition game I played way back when it came out (1988?), most of my playing days were using the original editions of D&D and AD&D in the early 80s (plus various other RPGs).
