Ok Ive got a little puzzle in which I hope you can help me with

Ive got 2 x PCS

PC 1 and PC 2 setup next to each other

Pc1 connects to the internet via ethernet cable
Pc2 connects to the internet via my laptop (via ethernet cable) which uses wireless to the router (sharing the internet).

I want to access the network from PC1 on PC2 although connecting via the laptop will not show the PC1s shared folder.

Anyone know any options or ways to show this? The pc2 shows a network with the laptop, but not a network with the routehr / pc1 if that makes sense

Thanks :)

man if pc1 and 2 are next to each other and pc1 is on line get a router and rout both of them to the interweb

Connection sharing sucks ....

Having to have your laptop on to see the interweb on pc2 sucks

well the router is downstairs and my bedroom is in the attic and i only have 1 loooooooooong ethernet cable and i cba to get one and wire it downstairs etc. The connection is actually very good using the laptop as a router for pc2. Have no lag whatsoever in games etc. I only want pc2 as a bot pc for daoc so its not worth the hassle of routering it etc ;p

Get the ip address of PC 1 (start -> run -> cmd press ok -> ipconfig /all)

go to PC 2 start -> run -> type \\<IP ADDRESS>
the share folders shoud appear as every PC in the network should have the same ip address rules even if you have bridged via laptop

With how it sounds you want to use Laptop to rout traffic from PC B to PC A the reason i see a problem is routing. PC should hit the laptop then PC A OK but i do not know how it will find its way back. I dont have enough machines kicking about to test it.

Are they all in the same workgroup? that would be the simplest thing to check. It sounds like pc1 is in a different workgroup to pc2 and the laptop, hence them not seeing each other.

Simplest and best long term solution would be to get that cheap switch.
Plug PC1 into the 1st socket of the switch with a patch cable.
Plug PC2 into the 2nd socket of the switch with a patch cable.
You then have the option of either:
a) plug your laptop into the 3rd socket of the switch with a patch cable.
b) using wifi for your laptop.

Your network "should just work". If for some reason you can't access a particular machine, you might need to set your firewall to allow machines on your local network range (10.x.x.x in my case). I just use static IP addresses, UNC names in the HOSTS file, and mapped drives to share between machines.

its to do with your router not giving your PC2 a DHCP name so you cant see it on the network, but via ip address your laughing
