Network Lag or Client Slow down in RvR?

Mythic (US) states in their FAQs that latency/lag experienced in RvR can be down to a number of causes ranging from network lag to client slowdown from the graphics engine.

I have a top end athlon system with a nice fast ADSL line and find it most odd that I am still getting lag/slow down in RvR.
The network appears fine, so I am looking at system specs to see if a faster system (overclocked P4 maybe) will solve it.

Given the rate at which euro servers get patched, I am cannot be arsed to wait for the new game engine in the expansion.

So, please could anyone who doesnt get lag/slow down in large RvR (50-60 players+) please post their system spec and Internet connection speed please? (you can brag if you want :) )

Items of interest are:

CPU type and speed
Motherboard & front side bus speed
RAM type & speed
Graphics card
Hard drives above 7,200 speed
Internet connection speed (up and down).

I really want to get rid of this performance problem and if it means a new Intel system, then so be it! :)

The game engine is shitty, it draws every polygon that you see, no LOD reductions, etc... Everyone gets graphics lag, no matter what kind of hardware they have :(

I recently changed from GeForce2 MX to a GeForce4 Ti4200, doesn't help one bit when there's a lot of people around. On the other hand, rest of the games I play look much nicer and play faster :)

If you have a nice system you'll do better when there's 20-30 people moving around.

Absolutely nothing will run at a reasonable speed on a dragon raid/relic raid/etc. mass gathering.

The engine is naff basically :) draws everything...

As an example... go to just under max viewing range from sauvage/wherever equivalent when there's loads of people waiting to portal...
(so you're close enough to see them if there' wasn't a wall in the way)

Watch the game screech to a halt...

Can't see a single person but the engine is drawing every single one...

What you need for that is HSR (Hidden Surface Removal), i think the nvidia beta's are playing around with that.. not sure what they done about it.. I heard Q3 can do it with some beta type stuff.. dunno.. hate Q3.. pff... nm

Damn, have to put up with it I guess :(
Thanks for all the answers though :)

Correction - it does have LOD on the terrain and some objects (trees), hence the really horrible 'popping' you get whilst walking around.

Unfortunately there seems to be no LOD (Level of Detail) for players or buildings, and so the second you get 30+ people on screen even the beefiest of graphics cards slows down.

NVIDIA have some nifty new 'extensions' on the cards to reduce 'overdraw' which I presume the expansion will use, perhaps coupled with some kind of player-LOD system as well.

In conclusion - just about any system ATM will slow down significantly with 50+ people on screen.

Oh yes, I forgot it actually does have LOD for ground. But the amount of polygons used for ground are neglible ;)

I think the expansion will be DirectX 8.1 compliant, which hopefully will make it quite a lot faster, if it's properly coded as being able to use vertex/pixel-shaders, T&L, etc.
