nerf goa's mprning updates

came from work, logged in, got ld..

next 17.x megs patch, 1.61c upgrade patch, yawn

going sleep, cba fix it when tired.

raise prices, give shit patches in middle.

thought it was just me - I was about to PA a little blue kobbie and suddenly went LD & then, like you, went to reconnect only to find a 17Mb Patch installing......

I think you're connected to the USA server...

No patch this end.

Check your update.dat file in your Shrouded Isles folder...
It should consist of 3 lines not around 7.
If you have got this problem copy this and paste this over it, then save:

Mythic Patch
193.252.123.21:1280/updates/english/isles/mpatch.dat
193.252.123.21:1280/updates/english/isles/mpatch.dat

Same happened to me and as far as I know I never have been on US update-server :|

there's a workaround...

just spam:

193.252.123.21:1280/updates/english/isles/mpatch.dat

200x in update.dat and it won't connect to US patcher, cos he'll be busy for a few hours trying to connect to the same GOA update server, and in that time they'll have fixed it.

Heheh, got it fixed though... after having dl-ed more then half of that update I figured night as well try checking for new updates... another 12mb at 12.7k/sec......... tedious

Could you just clarify what you did mate (ie. step by step idiot guide - not including switching on computer, tea break and call of nature etc.. ), for when I get home from work, please

• open SI folder
• open update.dat with notepad

One thing to prevent this from happening again is to make the file read-only.

That should help.

Nobody has yet confirmed this is fixes it, but it has only happened to me once I and stopped it in time.

Mark the file as read only, hopefully the updater wont have the rights to blat the file.

After all we were in the middle of a normal evenings play and then LD, only to reconnect to a download - assuming GoA's normal standards, I just thought this was something they were trying add to the server and trying to sneak it in.

See that middle finger ? Try taking notice of it.

How hard is it to put two and two together and work out that an LD, followed by a mysterious patch to the US servers, plus the mysterious oh my account/password doesn't work is the same thing?

So typically hypocritical that you accuse me of being a moronic teenager (I wish !) when your whole arrogant, and quite typically trolling, attitude serves you no justice.

Firstly, the assumption (and arrogant one at that) that I knew I was patching to a US server - hmm no, how could or would I know - Unfortunatey it only told me I was downloading a 17Mb file, didnt say where from and gave me no indication of why it was doing so.

Account & password not working ? - I didnt download the patch as 17Mb on 56k takes a little too long when it was getting late - some of us dont have the luxury of college, dossing or rolling into work blurry eyed.

I assumed the worst of GoA, a little hastey but hey, the power of hindsight... anyway, the some people were kind enough not to mock or make us feel even more stupid that we did and actually helped us. Im sure their book has a leaf spare.....

So there you have it, I was irked by your attitude & the fact you assumed so much, you were irked by the fact I must be a whiney "noob".
