Need Thane Starter tips from anyone who cares :)

I would go hammer for the best styles
then max stormcalling and hammer/shield
only played my thane to lvl 33 so I dont know much about them after that

where did you place your starting stats?

do you wanna sue a shield?

Best starting stats are +10 Str and +10 Con for sure.

if you wanna go shield add +10 dex too if ya gonan go offensive 2H add +10 Pie to bolster your spell damage. (dex is wasted on 2H thane users)

keep hammer maxxed till level 10 then get storms maxxed after that. Can afford to let hammer slip a few behind level after level 10 and get ur shield to 7.

if you are gonna spec shield do it to 42 for slam, if not leave it at 7 for engage.

end templates should be one of these:

44 Hammer
48 Storms
42 Sheild
Rest Parry

or

50 Hammer
48 Storms
7 Shield
Rest parry

yep, hammer is best for thanes.... im an axe thane myself, and have it tricky in RvR... damn plate mail wearing albs

dont start a thane.



Thanes runs slow, have weak hp and have the best mezz-breaking spell of all classes.

Hmm...just because some people can't play as a thane dosn't mean that everyone goes around breaking mez.

My suggestions would be:

* Hammer+Shield thane won't get sniped as easy.

* Hammer because of the provoke style. Great for long fights or when you are the main tank.

* Be careful with Mjolnir once you get it since it can be easy to hit mobs by mistake even if you use it after the other non-aoe spell.

* Always try to have orange equipment.

* When hitting lvl15-16 go to Huginfell and do killtasks for easy leveling.

* Around 23-28 there are lots of great stuff/quests in Muspelheim.

Bit late in the day I know .... still you can check out character builder at http://daoc.catacombs.com to try out different combinations. (Btw Solid, it says you can't get 44 h, 48 stc and 42 shield. It says 44, 48, 39 or 42, 48, 42. Have you got 44, 48, 42, meaning char builder is bugged?)

Any thanes got any thoughts on the following possible template? 50 hammer, 50 stc and 28 shield rest parry. At the point of choosing and I tend to go offensive so max out two main skills but put rest in shield to increase chance of blocking for rvr? This isn't done to get styles (I miss slam for shielf) but to maximise abilities at main skills and then to put some into shield. Or does it make shield not much use?

No I made a typo, its meant to say 46 storms, so the Shield build is 44 Hammer, 46 Storms, 42 Shield, my nbad, should have corrected that, but as this post sank, i just forgot about it

I'm a lvl 46 thane and I'm going for the 39 hammer / 48 SC / 42 shield / 15 parry spec.

As the level 44 style in hammer style doesn't offer me much, I'm sacrificing a bit of damage for more defense. The best part in this (and other templates with 42 shield, high hammer + SC) is the versatilety. Hammers are ok for PvE and excelent for RvR (you have nice bonus on the tough tanks of both enemy realms and no penalties). You can wear a shield for more protection and stun, or use a 2hander for increased damage.

You can also leave SC lower if you want to get higher hammer spec, but 46 SC is the minumum. The mjollnir does do more than break mezz, but only in right situation. It's good for hammering down people from battlements, or those pesky PK campers. The last DD you can't use chains, but atleast you can do nice dmg every 30 sec when you need to be careful with mezz breaking.
