Need help badly

Hi I when I got to SI char selection screen when clicking on the chars they cheer etc which is nice, but when I click on 'create new character' the paper doll image loads up and my screen instantly freezes So I can't make any new chars whatsoever. I can play SI with my previous chars however every 3 to 4 secs the screen freezes for a second or two then carries on. The graphics look awesome especially the water. So now with SI I can't play it at all. I tried lowering all the graphical settings but still made no affect I still freeze all the time. I also downloaded new drivers for my video card and installed Direct X9 but that didn't make any difference eathier.

I am using Windows XP, 64mb Radeon 8500, 2ghz AMD, 380+RAM
so SI should run fine on my system.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this please? All suggestions greatly appreciated (no stupid comments please).

mate i bought a 9700pro and sent it back after alot of research...

basically u need to find out what chipset your motherboard is using, this is more important than the other junk like processr O/s etc.

VIA chipsets are apprently the biggest nightmare.
Intel the most stable
AMD 761 (mine) worked ok aswell, but i had other technical problems with heat and power drainage.

Im about 1 year behind the PC technology becasue i havent upgraded for a while but i recomend u upgrade all chipset drivers as well, the ones that control the AGP side of things !!

its more than likely power issue, heat issue, Chipset issue, also dont change any settings atall have default everything, i started fidling with mine and i noticed it started crashing very quickly !

good luck, i know this dosnt help too much but at least its something esle to try ?!

ok I downloaded new Via 4 in 1 drivers this has made no difference. I looked at the BETA drivers avaliable to flash my BIOS (as the other ones didnt describle my problem) and found this:

Hi I tried the other unofficial drivers and still get same result. This is the error message:

The driver for the display device as unable to complete a drawing operation.. The display driver 8500 seems to be responible for the instability.

I get this message with every single driver.

The files at fault are:
