Whilst I'm sure this thread will prompt lots of responses suchs 'try another class!' I would really be interested in some contructive adivce and ideas on strategies and techniques to make use of Necro's in RvR.

Does anyone who plays a Necro regularly in RvR have any advice to offer or know of any useful resources on the internet that I can read.

Its either that or the Necro goes in the bin and becomes a power level aide - which would be a shame.

I play my necro in rvr more than any other of my other chars atm, so heres my advice :

- Get SC'd and keep up to date with what transfers to pet on vnboards necro forum - here's mine which uses replacable gloves and boots (when items hit 70% con, only +skills don't transfer) and pretty much only quest equipment:

- Most importantly, get a buffbot - without one you'll cast very slow (10 base dex on abomination :/), and be very vunerable to both melee and magic as your basically a blue con mob - even with one you'll still be fairly vunerable to magic, but you can make melee groups run away screaming ;)
- Accept that against magic user's your pretty much dead and don't be put off by being 2 shotted and stunned without having a purge.
- Learn how to control the pet - remember where your pet has problems and try to control the pet there (e.g, pet can run away around milegates so keep an eye on him).
- Learn the bugs - if your pet has a DoT on him, remember to FP or you won't be able to cast (DoTs interrupt necro pets every tick) and you'll just waste mana. This also goes for bugs that are in your favour - you can't spam combat lifetap while your stunned, but you can stick a HoT and dmg shield on the pet while your waiting - every little helps :)
- Also remember that enemies know necro bugs - they'll try to drag your pet away from you when you try in combat lifetaps, so anticipate this and FP up 3 casted lifetaps when they try ;)
- Probably the most important thing other than a bot is to remember about your pet - he WILL run off in the middle of battle if you don't have him on passive, remember that if your being zyphered to stick your pet on passive and follow so you dont pop from shade, remember that you can use the 'here' command to get your pet through keep doors, remember this lot and you should be fine :)

A fully buffed Necro pet is quite formidable adversary in melee combat. I've never tried it myself, but if you can get the knack of using your pet to lock down fully buffed casters and using your lifetaps to keep the pet alive, you'll probably be quite handy.

Of course, getting to the casters through the hail of Mid/Hib insta mezz is a different kettle of fish entirely.

Hmmm....i thought only Melee resis take effect on your pet and magic resis are not.
Am i wrong?

i'm sight spec - its more group friendly and in-combat lifetaps are very useful, as is the extra absorb from the abs buff.

Yes your wrong Pacey, magic resists always transferred, but melee resists have only done so since 1.65 or so.

All good stuff - keep them coming - shame about the buffbot, resources a bit low only 1GB RAM and 2.6Ghz processor on the PC and misses users her PC all the time :(

When I RvRed with my necro the only problem I had was VS casters when I was stunned, if I jumped them i could kill them pretty easily.
If a caster is nuking you from range, tell your pet to attack it, then chase after your pet. It can move at almost horse speed so it can get to the caster very fast.
If you get rooted, passive mode should break it, but be aware if you switch to any other mode, he'll get rooted again.

The pbaoe dot is in a circle around you like chanter pbaoe, if your in a room above a keep door, and cast it, you'll hit all those on the door with no rist to yourself.

Fully buff yourself like a tank, before summoning pet, then summon him, then drop down to your dex + int.
If you're really stat crazy, get a 2nd set of armour made for summonging, with "tank" stats on it. Then switch to your caster stat armour for RvRing.

Keep armour repaired.
Take out casters first, either by charging them in melee or FP lifetapping. You can interupt 2-3 targets at the same time, with pet on 1, while insta tapping another.

If you somehow get a group, assist a tank and AF debuff for him :)wub: Farek ;) )

Not really horse speed, just sprint speed + whatever speed you have on at the time (so if your mincer is playing speed 5, you pet runs at speed 5 + sprint), doesnt come back afaik but usually get hit at least once after i clear root anyway :p

Doesnt work - stats from buffs and base stats dont transfer to pet - only from items. Just stick spec and base dex and acuity on shade and rest on pet, but spec AF and renewel don't do anything on pets. Dunno about summoning suit in current patch, but I heard on VN necro boards that its nerfed in later patch, but since then ive seen ppl post about summoning suits so dunno :eek2:

Don't need to repair anything except stuff with +skill (sight, pain, servant etc) and focus (ie staff, but doesnt matter if your using belt of moon staff :p). Belt of moon charge to create staff works fine at 70%, and all resists and stats still work. AF doesnt transfer from shade to pet, so you won't have any less abs when having 70% con cloth than 100%.
