Age of sail PVP game.

Current build is combat testing.
Eventual plans are for an open world MMO style game.

Physics, wind, sailing and damage models all simulated.

I have ponied up for access.. Looks mint IMO.

So.

Played a few games now.

I like it.

The sailing, gunnery, and damage modeling is realistic enough to feed the simulationist in me. Whilst at the same time, the combat interface is intuative enough to get your head around in a battle or two at most.

Sailing is done via WS increasing or decreasing sail volume (with the B key setting "battle sails")
AD are your rudder.

Mouse is used to look around, right click take you into gunnery mode, Shift toggles the spyglass, spacebar fires a single ranging shot, whilst left click unleashes all your guns. Aiming is manual and personal skill based.. you have to range and lead for yourself. Which is a good thing IMO.

At the moment, it is just an arena style combat mechanics test. You queue up for a battle, and sink the enemy ships. There are some limited scenarios...

PVE light (Team of players vs AI ships... limited to light ships)
PVE full (Same but tends to contain bigger ships)
PVP Light (As above, but teams of players vs teams of players)
PVP Full (player teams, not ship limits)
Trafalgar (Huge 40 ship PVP battles... 1st rates and all sorts)

You start in a "Lynx" which is a small 8 gun "cutter" type ship. You unlock bigger ships by dealing damage in games (PVE or PVP)

eventual plans are to turn the game into an open world sandbox style MMO, complete with trading, comerce, piracy etc etc. Think POTBS but with actual fairly realistic age of sail combat, skill based gunnery and no "magic ability hotbars"

Very promising indeed.

If the idea of an open world pvp age of sail game appeals to you, maybe worth buying in now to help with testing and direction.

whats the death system like ? in POTBS you had to buy copies of your ship, so getting ganked a lot was a real PITA, losing a Line ship was days of work, any info yet at all ?

Nothing on that yet. At the moment you just exit a battle and join a new one :)

Yes, though not loads. Just a few gunners etc.

Ramming yes. Its very messy and often fatal for both parties

Boarding yes - though its a simple early implementation that takes a rock / paper / scissors "Stance" approach and takes your current crew numbers into account.

Saw this brought up on another forum, might give it a go, if you fancy giving it a go with a group of people, (I believe that they're setting up a 'guild' or what ever terminology you can apply to this) give me a shout :)
