My PC Problem: Reloaded.

Ok, remember a while back I had a problem with my main PC not booting all of a sudden?

Well it turns out I was right, it was the PSU that had blown.

So finally today I got a nice spanking new 400W PSU, got it installed and lo the thing posted!

:D

So, after putting in the settings for the cmos again (CPU Speed, date, time etc), it booted up ok into windows, but annoyingly this has now begun constantly happening while the PC is booted.

The motherboard is an Abit TH7-II, and the error code FF as you see in the link above means "Boot attempt (INT 19h)".

What the fook does that mean when it's at home? And how do I stop the incessant wailing?

TIA :)

Edit: Wrong mobo model.

Pinched from http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2002q1/abit-th7ii/index.x?pg=2
Right next to the power and reset buttons, Abit has included a two-digit display that spends most of its time locked on "FF". However, during the boot sequence, the display runs through a series of diagnostic codes (FF is just what is displayed when you're through the boot sequence and everything is running). While I didn't have any bootup problems with the TH7II-RAID, this display is perfect for boot-time troubleshooting. Instead of having to listen for beep codes, you can read the problem right off the display.

As for the alarm check that you have all the alarms switched off in the BIOS or that the readings from the Health Monitor are within what the alarms are set at...

Righty-o, so what's the noise all about?

Sounds like an ambulance tearing down the road at 2am.

S'ok, got it sorted.

Changed a few options in the SoftMenu, and it appears to have worked.

I think it may have been the alarm on CPUFan option doing it, despite the cpu fan whirring away happily...

Anyway, sorted now. So I can get back to Splinter Cell finally!!!

:D :D :D

Thanks PR btw :) :great:

While we're here, with the new PSU, I got this lead:

The connection on the rear of the PSU (which has no on/off switch like most PSUs I've seen, has the label:

Now I know that it's a power input of some sort, but what is it for exactly? Especially when there's a great big stonking power lead being plugged from the mains directly into the PSU anyway?

/nick intrigued...
