Trouble is which one to get?!! Theres so many :/

Do i get a ATA66 or UDMA66?
Which make is best for overclockers?
Do i go 5400rpm/7200rpm?
Decisions, decisions, hmmmm?

Been recommended the 22Gb IBM-GXP 'Titan' UDMA-66 (8.5ms 512K 7200rpm) £175 @ Scan. This do the job? Or would i be better with 2mb buffer and will this make any NOTICEABLE? difference?

:/

Would be really grateful for some advice,

Rockhard

Just delete some stuff off of your hard disk, simple cheap and great fun, watch when the uninstall program requires the CD and you ain't got the CD anymore, so you manulay delete it, only to find it effects everything on your computer by doing it and your to lazy to reformat, watch all the system errors pop up, one of your versions of ICQ die, windows flopping on it's feet, a fatal exception error pop up every time you try to run shutdown, great fun!!

Yo d00d!

>>Do i get a ATA66 or UDMA66?

Same thing m8... but u need a mobo that has UDMA66 on board or a UDMA66 controller card to use UDMA66 data transfers. Really though, there aint much performance increase over udma33 and udma66

>>Which make is best for overclockers?

Depends on what PCI speed it'll be running on... if its an FSB that uses a 33MHz PCI bus speed it doesnt matter... but if its an FSB like 83 or 124MHz u need a drive by WD or IBM as these speeds use 41MHz PCI.

>>Do i go 5400rpm/7200rpm?

5400rpm is still kinda fast nowadays as long as you get one of the latest drives with UDMA66 and 2 meg buffers... 7200rpm is better but hotter too.

>>Decisions, decisions, hmmmm?

Oh aye

2mb buffer is better in theory but noticable difference... well, doubt u could tell the diff.

Id go for an ibm drive though, one of the UDMA66, 7200rpm, 2 meg buffered drives!!!

If u need any PC133 ram i can get some... 150 quid for 128 megs.

Looks like my little maxtor's gonna get an IBM as its case m8

Been readin at www.storagereview.com that IBM supply a utility to disable the UDMA66 so looks like that's gonna be best option for me for now

Bit pricey tho' for 7,200rpm models!

I have the IBM 22GXP (or its 18 gig little brother) and it is a 7200 RPM UDMA 66 HD. It is a nice drive but not as nice as my 9.1 10000 RPM IBM which is noticeably faster still despite what benchmarks tell u. Still, it's a lot of space for a reasonable amount of money. Be aware though: The only HD i've ever broken is an IBM 8.4 gig :-/
Other thing: UDMA 66 is a nice number but not much else. If you're gonna o/c you can actually just use your plain Jane UDMA 33 and it will still go at a fair whack and improve your o/c prospects. You don't lose much in terms of performance. Certainly nothing I have noticed yet.
