last night i was bemoaning the lack of a half decent rpg these days...
(cptDoom had just been spamming asherons call 2 screenies.... which i went "oooh" to... then went and told me that they want £30 for the game... then *£8.95* a month to play the fucking thing)
ANYWAY... the point of this thread?
it is widely acknowledged that Ultima 7 in its two incarnations - The Black Gate and Serpent Isle - is the best RPG around... bar none... at all...
it's also widely acknowledged that this is no longer the day of the 486/33, with roland sound card and 4 meg of ram running MSDOS....
... and that getting Ultima to even run, with or without sound or mouse support was an absolute fucking NIGHTMARE in any post-windows-3.1 operating system....

kindly shown to me last night in irc by someone who's name i have already forgotten.
what is it? whassit do?
it's an ultima 7 game engine... available on many platforms (my laptop was win2k)
you basically install ultima 7 as you usually would... you then install exult... (also one of the sound packs if you want sound - see the download page)
run it... and voila.
ultima 7. in windows(or operating system of choice). working. with mouse and sound support.
i cried. i did.
