PLEASE HELP I HAVE HALF LIFE 1101 BUT WHEN I RUN THE PATCH TO 1104 IT SAYS COULD NOT INITIALIZE INSTALATION CRC PARAMETER INCORECT. THE SAME HAPENS WITH C-S 7.1 TO V1.

sounds like a b0rked install of CS or corrupt downloads?
The most guranteed solution is to download the full CS install and the full HL patch and uninstall then reinstall from scratch but that's a bit of a pisser if you're not on some kind of l33t phat pipe...
Other than that I'm not entirely sure what to suggest :/

Yep, same thing has happened to me.
Usually caused by a duff download.
Just have to re-download the patch and try again.
Bit of a bugger really as it has taken me up to 3 attempts before I get a working patch/upgrade.
A real bugger if the patch is 20meg+, over my 56K modem.
I recon it's me dodgy BT line.

Another thing I found when reinstalling HL again recently - make sure you don't "delete" the TFC directory, because one of the HL patches looks for a TFC map (dustbowl, I think?) and freaks if it can't find it.

I deleted TFC because I consider it to be inferior to the original Team Fortress, so never touch it, but I think forcing ppl to download all the extra crap and install it even if they never use it and know they don't need it, is a bit silly. Not everyone has unmetered and/or broardband connections.

Why can't they have supplied two different HL patches - one with the TFC stuff, the other without? The non-TFC patches would be much smaller.

Aye. Daz deleted his /tfc directory, but the most recent HL netcode patch amends Dustbowl, so it fucked him.
And yes, I fully agree with you Japes. TFC is crap, and I don't want it. Now that CS is "officially endorsed" by Valve, will every new HL patch contain base code, TFC, and CS modifications? My, that will be nice and small won't it...

i agree ive played TFC once and i just dont like it .it looks hella dodgy,they should issue 2 patches.
as to BT lines being fucked up,thats true, im trying to get the HL upgrade from 1.1.0.1 to 1.1.0.4, 3 times its timed out,it really getting on the end of my tits.
