Chronic 2001 is a great album and has not aged at all.

Lots of older stuff has already been mentioned, for the newer generation then get all of Kanye's albums, get Tha Carter 3, you must own some NAS and Jay Z, although which albums are good and which are not is very debatable. Ludacris must be in your collection somewhere, the word of mouf album if nothing else. Oh and get Bubba Sparx, Dark Days Bright Nights.

Eminem has his new album out soon and I believe the clan do as well.

Others have been mentioned, so, Redman and to a lesser extent, Method Man.

Also D-12 naturally.

Gorillaz - Got some different stuff in it - can't rate them on the first couple of songs in their albums, they've got rap, normal singing, rock, piano and singing etc ^^ its good stuff tbh =]

DMX does not seem to have had a mention yet, especially his early stuff.

Toht offered up D12, they are ok, but nothing special, I was dissapointed by their albums as a whole.

Missy Elliot, Tribe Called Quest, Outkast.

May be worth getting some compilations and getting the best tracks of each artist.

Oh yeah, Q-Tip for more funky funk.

The D-12 mention was ofcourse due to the Eminem connection. They have a couple of good songs, but it is, yes, very much like a rap-class seesaw :D

Have you though about UK grime? just listen to Radio One Extra there are some awesome tunes coming through on that.

Have a look at some of the Sway/Wiley/Roll Deep/JME etc - it's all really good "freestyle" over DNB backings, quality stuff.
