Yaya, I know, another one of the "Music to ... to" threads, but I figure if ignus can start one about driving, then I can start one about weed. :>

Anywho, to all those on these forums who enjoy the occasional/regular toke, what do you listen to whilst enjoying that toke? Mine would be:

Minimalistix - Elements
CD2 of the MOS Clubber's Guide to Ibiza 2002 (CD1 is a bit pants)
Feeder - High (acoustic)
Staind - Unplugged on MTV (SVCD)
Wu-Tang - *.*
Jurgen Vries - The Theme
Jurgen Vries (what can I say, the man's a god) - The Opera Song (Dub Mix)
Sunset Cafe 2.0 (a beautiful mix of ambient sounds and jazz schtuff).

There's probably more, but I'm fucked if I can remember it at the moment.

Anyway, shoot. :)

Good thing too I'm running out of ideas.

Don't smoke full stop let alone that shit but I imagine 3 kilos by the prodigy would work well

Each to their own. I'm sure you have some music in your collection that would make me want to rip my arms off and throw them at you. :)

I've listened to loads of tracks while stoned. I was suprised to find out that good music really shines when listened to 'under the influence' of mind altering substances. but to contribute, I'd like to mention Led Zeppelin, Nirvana. The Clash, INXS, Radiohead. Quite brilliant the majority of thier tracks are :)

But Vires is the epitomy of cheesy pop chart trance that townie skiv fucks listen to on the MoS and Trance Nation compilations (they usually have that and the logical song on repeat ;|).

You could have at least picked some decent trance tracks to smoke to, like Solar Coaster or the Michael Woods remix of Café Del Mar.

Get some taste pls :/

The Norah Jones album was nice to smoke along to.

Personally I like Squarepusher just to float along with the basslines, especially on something like Burning'n'Tree when he's playing an acoustic bass at 200 bpm.

Fuck the logical song, and anything else by scooter for that matter. Yes, the Woods rmx of Café Del Mar is sublime.

I don't see VRIes as cheesy pop chart trance that townie skiv fucks listen to. The Opera Song is leaning tenuously towards this (I don't know whether it was the introduction of a vocalist, or the fact that if you catch it at the wrong part, it does[/i sound like something cheesy ...... skiv fucks listen to), but The Theme can stand up and be proud of what it is, a fantastic blend of classical elements and trancey roots. Hmm, all I need to do is put 'eclectic' in that sentence somewhere and I'll sound like Judge Jules or summat. :(

1. I dont 'toke'

2. Vries is near the forefront of commercial cheesy trance. 'The Theme' has been overplayed almost since its release, it is good but it is very commercial and very overplayed. As for 'The Opera Song' that is also cheesy trance and is getting a lot of playtime and will no doubt go the same way as 'The Theme'. It does contain well sung vocals from our young opera favourite Charlotte Church. I have 'The Opera Song' on vinyl and I like it but there are far better trance tunes around :)

As for Scooter, they are cheesy but they do cheesy trance well so leave them alone. Old skool Scooter stuff from 8 years ago or so is good quality. Unfortunately it is marred by that idiot MC which still manages to annoy people in their newer songs.

As for Nos saying skivs listen to Trance I think hes a bit wrong, skivs listen to UK Garage :)

True a lot of people enjoy trance nation and such but the real scum listen to UK Garage!

How true is that, I used to listen to rave and scooter was one of my favs except for that annoying twat, this was all until I discovered the beautiful sound of an acoustic guitar. (Can anyone else play a major F)

And fucking garage, fucking, twating, shitting, wanking, bastarding, cunting UK garage needs to be burned along with the nobheads in puffa jackets and supped up Novas, as well as the likes of blazing squad and so solid crew. I just want to smash their teenage acne riddled faces together until it forms something that could be classed as modern art. But thats just me.

Just so as not to disappoint Kez:-

  • Massive Attack - All 4 albums work pretty damn well, altho Protection is good for the "drift off to sleep" smoke.
  • The Streets - Original Pirate Material - Fantastic for smoking to.
  • Rob Dougan - Furious Angels. This CD was custom deisgned for smoking, full of long build-ups, soothing strings, mental beats (callous, I demand you download Clubbed to Death Part 2) and fantastic songs.
  • Avril Lavigne - Let Go. Yes. I have put Avril on my list. Try smoking to it. You'll see why.
  • Desert Storm Presents Innovative and Intelligent Drum N Bass Volume 1. A chilled DnB CD from about 1996, still proves to be the ultimate chillout album along with......
  • Chilled Euphoria (and to a lesser degree, Chilled Out Euphoria).
  • Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin work well.
  • Cake - Fashion Nugget.

Those are just off the top of me head. Once Iget a working PC again I shall no doubt come back with more.

I did, I did! :)

I also have a CD full of Clubbed to Death remixes, I think there are 7 or 8 in total. Some are good, some are poor, they all sound pretty samey tbh. I'll get that album though, it sounds fantastic.

I also heartily recommend Northern Exposure I, II and III. The first one has a track called Satellite Serenade by Keiichi Suzuki. The track is ~9 mins long and I swear it takes about 7 of those minutes to get going. Beautiful buildup involving a David Attenborough sample (has to be heard to be believed). :>

I figured if I left this thread for long enough, you'd exhaust the good stoner music; but you haven't.

Aim
Nightmares on Wax
Astrobotnia
Sonic Youth (on occasion, only certain types of stone suit it)
