on my sony W-12 there is an option called "multiburst". this means (vaguely) that the camera keeps snapping shots while I depress the button until I let go.
on the digicam I then see the pics taken a bit like a film of someone walking while flashed by a strobe, and thought that it would be brilliant for snapping bike stunts.

sadly I can't seem to find a viewer for them on my poota. it just shows a large pic composed of all the frames taken while I had my finger on the button so to speak.

anyone know of an ap that lets me view the pics in sequence?

I have the DSC-T7 and it's interpretation of 'multiburst' means taking 4 (I think) lower resolution (I think it goes from 5mp to 2 for multiburst) pictures... But they're all seperate jpg's when I copy them across... So i'm not much help I'm afraid.

Sony's blurb for the W-12 isn't overly helpful:

sony.co.uk said:
9 Shot Burst Mode
Capture up to 9 shots (fine) or 16 shots (standard) at 1.6 frame/sec. even at 5 MP resolution. Perfect for high speed subjects or fast moving action such as sports.

Multi-Burst Mode
Captures 16 320 x 240 frames as part of a single 1280 x 960 image which plays back sequentially in the camera. Selectable 1/7.5, 1/15, 1/30 second.

Edit / Of course, if it only takes the multi-burst pictures at 320x240 in the first place, then you could just cut the outputted 1280x960 up into 16 pieces, as laborious as it sounds. But Sony are just too damn clever not to include a way of doing it. What format is the 1280x960 image?

well, it's a jpg (or jpeg). but 320x240 is *tiny*, though *huge* as an animated gif I'm sure :/

bah stupid sony. still, burst seems nice enough at full size, and 9/16 seems reasonable. I'll give it a go and see what happens.

Hmm, interesting, it would appear that the T7 does:

sony.co.uk said:
Burst Mode (shots) 9
Burst Interval (approximately sec) 0.7

Still Image size (5.0 Mega, 2592 x 1944) YES
Moving Image Size (MPEG VX Fine, 640x480, 30fps) YES
Moving Image Size (MPEG VX Standard, 640x480, 16.6fps) YES
Moving Image Size (MPEG Video mail, 160x112, 8.3fps) YES
Multi Burst YES

But the features list for the W-12 is ohsomuch more explanatory than the T7. You get a description of the feature, I get a YES or a NO. :(

But anyway, I'm gonna play around with the camera when I get home, it's probably buried in some menu somewhere. :)

And some more...

some T7 specs page somewhere said:
Multi Burst Mode: When shooting in the Multi-Burst mode, pressing the shutter once records 16 frames in a row. You can set the interval between frames at 1/7.5 second, 1/15 second, or 1/30 second. All 16 frames will be recorded as one 1M image (1280 x 960). When you play back images recorded in Multi Burst mode with this camera, the 16 frames will be played back in order, with a fixed interval between them. When the images are played back on a computer or a camera without Multi Burst, the 16 frames will all be displayed at the same time as part of one image.

I think that's as close to a definitive answer as you're going to get. :)

Burst Mode on the T7 can do the following, I haven't found a table for the W-12 but they're both 5mp and made by Sony so I'm pretty sure they'd be similarly scaleable:

Code:
	Fine Standard
5M 9 15
3:2 9 15
3M 13 24
1M 32 59
VGA 100 100

yarr! coolies! I can live with 640x480 or 1M. so it will be round about 32 pix at that if I read it correctly. hmm. seems like a plan. I'll give it a try if I can tempt the gf out on her dirtbike!

If you're happy with 640x480 and the lighting is good where you're stunting then you could also try shooting a video and dropping selective frames in an editor afterwards. This would also afford you more control over timing and mpeg is easier to deal with on a computer than the output from multi-burst...

I get much better results with multi-burst than burst (I haven't looked too deeply into it but the focusing is pretty non-existent in burst at high resolutions).

I haven't tried mpeg vs multi-burst yet.

yeah I see what you mean. and the added boon of me having a movie of face-planting myself into some dirt eheh :) still, I've never ever done video editing before. I hope there are scads of freeware tools to play with :)

If you have paint shop pro, then animation shop is the simplest way I can find of selecting every say, 40th frame, copying that to a new animation and editing the timing (select all the frames, right-click and select 'frame properties') between those frames. Multiply the default timing (33ms for 30fps - animation shop works in 1/100ths of a second, so it's 3) by the number of frames you left behind between each frame in the original mpg (if you see what I mean :\) to get 'real-time' and then slow it down a bit for better effect.

There are probably better ways of doing it but this works for me. And if you don't have paint shop pro, then you should because it's great. :)

Edit / Also, worthy of note - when animation shop opens the file it will ask you if you want to take a sample of every x frames rather than all of them, which is an even easier way of getting rid of the unwanted ones. And the app gets a bit chubby on the system resources when you open anything bigger than 10 seconds (of this 640x480 mpeg).
