That isn't Media Player 8 please :)

Just looking for something for video clips, ideally that'll do WM, MPEG, DivX, QuickTime and Real all at once :)

Is there such a thing?

I suppose it'd be good wehn WinAmp 3 gets finished and the plug in brigade get going on exploiting the video aspect on that.

Doesn't help me now though :(

I had a search on Google for you, there are a few multi-format players out there, though they ain't Freeware, and don't seem to support Real.

Windows media player 6.4 (not available for XP afaik, soz) is still the daddy as far as i'm concerned, only formats it ever has trouble with are Quicktime (gay) and Realmedia (ubergay).

The reason is that Real etc won't license out the codec decoder, hence, there really isn't any all-in-one media players

Media player 6.4 is installed by XP as well as 8.

Start - run - mplayer2

:)

Heh,

Unfortunately Apple and Real will never release full access to their codecs and drivers as the sale of their players makes too much $$$ - which kinda kills the chance of any freeware all in one soltion.

Even the likes of adobe require you to install quicktime to enable certail filetype support in their apps.

Winamp 3 WILL be able to play those filetypes but will require the app is installed too - i.e. install QT5 but view the videos through winamp which will be technically reskinning the QT video frame...

gay I know, but if you owned a multi-million dollar business creating, serving and decoding streams at a client with a your own software like apple or realnetworks you'd do all you could to make sure that someone paid for every stage of the process, tis business.

It's worth having RealOne and Quicktime installed if nothing else because both apps automatically update their codecs which means you should never have problems using their filetypes - you don't have to register them if you don't want to after all.

Oh, and WMP8.1 is going to mean the death of WMP6.4, finally =)

I have RealOne, WMP and QT installed ... I've set everything to play though media player (which is the majority), I only have to use RealOne and Quicktime once in a blue moon.

aye i dont like WMP 7/8 because you cant use your Space Bar to pause/play, so it gets a tad annoying after a while.

It's not a player i know: but EO Video is a handy converter that will convert from pretty much any format to any other format : assuming you have the codecs installed : so to convert RM to mpeg, you'd need Realplayer or Realone installed : Probably the next best thing. either www.eovideo.com or www.eo-video.com

Btw, nice avatar, Xavier :)

I use WMP 8.0. I double click on avis and it loads up. They then proceed to play. Which suits me.

I use xine. I type `xine filename.avi` which loads it up. This suits me.

First rule of Linux - why do something with a double click when you can type 3 lines of code instead?

I de-installed WMP 7 because the damn thing keeps connecting to the net to find an updated version and you can't turn it off, the options are "daily", "weekly" and "monthly" only.

I use 6.4, plus the DivX Player for DivX 4 codec.

You bring up the CMD line by typing:

> /fr//g tttjh /`xf -r/flibble pa/rp

Then enter the lines of code in Latin

With capital letters every third character, excluding non-taxable characters and weekends. Of course.

I like the new real player - nice and fast with a clean interface

Quicktime is only good for watching trailers on quicktime.com
