Japanese Police have arrested a Chinese student who used an army of bots to steal items from fellow players in a popular online role playing game.

The items were then sold on auction sites for cash, however can this sort of mugging charge hold up in court? The actual act of mugging was done virtually, although the selling of the items was done in the real world...

In Japan, there are no specific laws to govern trade in virtual possessions.

Quality. It was probably against the code of conduct/eula for the game, so they can certainly take action - whether they can take this much action is another thing!

Just goes to prove that no amount of Communist propaganda can stop the venture capitalist bubbling up to the surface ;) Amusing to say the least! :D

That prolly means, that in future MMO's admin's will need a virtual Police force to investigate these things.
