I like the new version of messenger, not had a single issue with it. It looks nicer too. But then again, I buy my music.

Everytime i send (Or recieve) i get:

"<contact> tried to send you a file (<mp3>.mp3). This file has been blocked because it is potentially unsafe."

I could recieve them fine before updating to 7.xx, but to cheat the system a bit, if i change the file extension from ".mp3" to (for instance) ".txt" they send! So there has got to be an option which is automatically blocking them from being sent over.

Another fault/annoyance is that if you have several contacts in your list who just CANT possibly express themselves with words alone use a million and one fucking Emoticons to get their point across making it very difficult who is who on your list :/

.... Dont even start me on the nudging either!

This version of MSN 7.xx just seems like a bloated, waaay bloated version of Yahoo Messenger, everything about it almost looks the same

its not even letting me send/recieve pictures (bitmap/jpg)

i dont actually know if something else is blocking it... as i managed to send something to someone different than last night, but still couldnt recieve.

Whatever the case, if its not fixed by tonight its gettin thrown off this system and 6.xx is gettin put back on. ;o

On the subject of MSN, i'd like to recommend http://apatch.tk for those of you who haven't seen it yet. Basically cleans up all the crap that's covering the standard interface.

NB: I felt that in order to protect the thousands of important government people inhabitating my Contact List, from the the people of the internet, i had to blur out my groups and their names.

You can disable nudging and all emoticons (custom and normal) under the options tab.
(Tools, then Options near the bottom, then messages, theres 3 tickboxes, you'll find them.)

I thought i'd comment on the file transfer anyway, even though it's solved, i've had this before, but it didn't bother me as i didn't want the file they were trying to send me anyway :p It was an image file, .GIF i believe.

Might be antivirus software on either your pc or your contacts pc blocking this. It is possible to configure auto-scans on file transfers under the options tab also .

(Tools, Options, File Transfers)

But i'm not sure as i didn't solve it considering i've never had any problems with files i actually wanted.

MSN7 contains built in file extension blocking. Some of it (.pif files) is to stop teenagers clicking on spyware/virii/other bollocks, others (mp3) is because all Microsoft wants to control your soul.

It is, ultimately all our own fault. We should have suspected that something as unfathomably cack as MSN7 would be released sooner or later, but still we went and used it and submitted to our less cynical friends choice of IM. We're all fools.

I'm with Swift - Trillian is nice. Though if you have a Mac, AdiumX is just plain bloody gorgeous (and also multiprotocol).
