MSI KT3 Ultra2 Raid problems.

Ive just got myself a spanky new KT3 board and XP2000 cpu. Having set it up, got it running nice etc, I went to set-up a raid 0 array using 2 Maxtor 6gig drives.

When I go into the Promise RAID set-up, it recognises the drives, and sets up the array, then re-boots as it should. If I go to Storage Manager in XP pro, the drive isnt recognised.

Booting into a Win98 start-up floppy and checking the drives with Fdisk, they are recognised and formatted, but on reboot, the RAID set-up says there is a problem with the array. If I go into the system, it sets up one of the drives as a RAID 1, whilst still seeing the 2 drives as RAID 0 !!! The system reboots and does the same again, and again, and again etc.

Both the drives are jumpered to master, and are connected to the RAID ide sockets 3 and 4, via separate cables.

What am I doing wrong, or is it a problem with XP and the RAID controller?

Any ideas?

no.

what happens is:

if I enable the raid in bios, first boot and I set the raid to 0, 12gig. reboots, goes into xp, all ok, but, the drive isnt recognised in storage manager.

If I re-boot, when we get to the raid stage, it says the array is faulty, so I go into the utility, and its created another array. So ive still got the 0, at 12 gig, and a new 1, at 6gig.

Reboots, but again stalls at the raid stage.

If I create a fresh array 0, and reboot into dos and use fdisk, the drive array is recognised as a single 12gig drive, which it should. But then when get back into XP, its not reciognised, and the whole thing starts again.

Come on Embeh, help me out here. :(

could be a driver thing mate. I remember a raid mb I had once that would only do the deed on vendor drivers

Perhaps in the storae manager but not in the RAID setup section.

having just looked at the specs for these Maxtor drives, Im embaressed to say that they are only dma33. (i got them free, OK) Would this have anything to do with the probs, and tbh, is worth fecking around with these things?
