I use CDex and it's by far the best program I've come across for ripping CD's etc. Yes, it does mp3 > wav and vice versa :)

If you encode with Ogg Vorbis, then you can decode them to wavs with 'oggdec' which is part of the vorbis-tools package...

Better than MP3 and try not to be too patronising Will :)

Command line stuff does not bother me, I started computing with DOS 4 :)
Cannot see much point though nowadays, drag and drop is sooo much less hassle.

Ogg's a bad idea until it gets slightly more support.

As for converting I tend to just use the diskwriter in winamp as I can queue up everything I want set the EQ and let it go.

if only it would do :| ogg > mp3. At least some of those commie open source projects are good! we shouldn't eradicate them just yet!!

(oh, and just use winamp diskwriter plugin thats installed by default, you newbie)

If no-one uses OggVorbis, then it will never get support. If someone brings in support for it into their [quality] mp3 player, then they'll sell shitloads of it, and the rest of the gang will have no choice but to support it. However, no-one will support it till there's geeks roaming the streets, moaning that they can't listen to their music whilst on the go, because there's no portable OggVorbis players!

I hope so heh. I really like the ipod, and x gigs worth of music is far better than the minidisk player I use atm.

Mp3 to wav?

Why not just use the disk writer output module that comes with winamp?

Dime
