MP3 Players

Ok, I want an MP3 player, with a nice balance of size, battery life and storage. Does anyone have any recommendations and/or warnings before I go hand over any cash?

Ok, links, or at least makes, would be a good start. And while a mobile phone/mp3 player is a nice idea, I don't own a mobile at the moment, and I don't madly want to get one. People kept on phoning me, it got so annoying after a while.

Read it before Embattle, thanks for the pimpage, I've read that before. I'm after a player, not a jukebox, and from reading that I asume the iPod is like a Creative Nomad, which is a little bulkier than what I was after.

the IPod is pretty tiny tbh - a little taller than my T68 and about the same depth

If you want smaller then look at the following

MAny Ultrasm (128mb/256mb)
MPIO DMG (64mb/128mb)
MPIO DMK (64mb/128mb)

all of which are available from www.mp3players.co.uk and will be featuring in reviews over the next week or so.

personally I'd go for the IRiver SlimX http://www.tecnation.co.uk/reviews.php?section=13&index=312 which although the same size as a teeny discman is boody slim and probably the most versatile solution for the money!

xav

I think the MPIO DMK will be winging it's way to me very soon, 128Mb, 10 hours from a AAA battery (I handle these at work a lot ;)), and 30 grams without battery.

Cheers, always nice to know the options. I think I've made up my mind, but if anyone has anything to add, I'll not be ordering until tomorrow anyway.:)

Hmm Xav hows that Tape MP3 player?

My new car comes with a built-in tape player/radio so unless I buy a CD Changer I'm stuck :(

its excellent - being designed not only for people who want in-car MP3 for their tape decks but also functioning as a normal personal MP3 unit.

The only thing that lets it down in my opinion is the remote - the backlight isn't great nor is the display itself, well, ity as good as the SlimX anyhow

Anything that uses a triple A battery is going to be terrible underpowered, ie your headphones are going to be quiet as hell, especially if you use a decent pair and not the hideous things they give you free.

having tested all four this afternoon I dont agree

both our sennheiser earbuds and sony mdr-g73's sounded crisp with decent bass and good volume...

Earbuds, Driver size about half a centimetre

MDR G73s, Driver size 3 centimetres tops.

Try something with a decent size.
