MP3 playback probs.

I have a friend who uses WinMX to download his MP3 files. He then uses Windows media player to play them back.

Singles work perfectly alright.

Albums give the following error:
No combination of files could be found to render the stream
.

Now, me being stuck on 56k, I dont tend to do a great deal of MP3 leaching, so Im throwing it out to you chaps to see if you can help him out.

Anyone got any ideas?

Hmm, ethical dilemma #3,408 - Should you help someone who is almost certainly breaking the law? hehe :p

Well, assuming your friend is being good it sounds a lot like the filetype isn't supported by Windows Media Player. Usually this an be fixed by downloading and installing the necessary third-party codec, but what we really need to know is the filetype he's trying to download. If we knew that, then it should be fairly easy to fix.

Kind Regards

Hmm, strange :( There are different types of MP3, which vary according to the encoder, but often it's easy to tell them apart. Is your friend using the latest version of Windows Media Player (i.e. 9 Series?))

Also, when you say downloading albums, what exactly do you mean (newbie question, no doubt)? Are we talking just one large file? Several 'normal' files? One file with smaller files inside?

Kind Regards

Hmm, not sure Jonts TBH, I'll find out tomorrow. Ive told him to get WinAmp and give that a whirl.

I'll update when I see him tmorra.

Cheers.

Or even better ditch Winamp and get Foobar.

I'm guessing that the files aren't actually mp3s, just something renamed, hence the inability to play them.

lol, anyone else care to pimp their prefered media player whilst we're here? hehe :p

Don't worry about not knowing the specifics, Wilier. Whatever the case is, hopefully we'll be able to sort it out :)

Kind Regards

FOOBAR > EVERYTHING

It's made by the guy who was primarily responsible for Winamp 2.91 before Nullsoft were taken over and features Kernal Streaming (OMGS HAWT)
