Mp3 > Mid?

I know this is a bit of a crap topic, but is there any app that can sort of "convert" mp3 or wav to a midi file? I know convert is the wrong word and would be more suitably replaced by "mangle", but I don't see any reason why it can't just work it's way through a file and replaces notes with silly little beeps...

Any suggestions are welcome and gratefully received! TIA PPL!!!

Uh, but how would it figure out how to distinguish the separate instruments or whatever? Isn't the point of wave type files that they emulate an analogue recording? And midis are just digital, on/off things. So there'd be no obvious way to convert. I'm no expert at all, of course, and if you're talking about an mp3/wav which is just one instrument with clearly distinguishable notes then I suppose that might be possible, but glemph.

There may be some hi-tech program that could pick out the main melody of a song and create that into a single instrument playing it. Although other than that I think it's impossible, midi>mp3 should be no problem though.

There is, I found one with google a long time ago. I don't have it now tho. It 'listened' to the music, and made a 'ringtone' midi out of it. Then I used that midi in another program which came up with the buttons for me to press on my phone.

Yeah, that's basically what I want to do, except I'd just send the midis to my phone via Bluetooth instead of faffing around with keypresses and stuff. :)

It's probably too late but here's one that I found. I haven't tried and don't know if it works but it'd be pretty good if it does.
