Moving House

My offer was accepted and I've accepted the offer I was given. Solicitors set loose, Mortgage being keyed and Surveyors already paid for.

Now I just need to persuade Mrs Wij that she won't be able to hit my credit card as hard in the future unless she wants a visit from Mr Big Bailliff Bloke :)

This is were the fun starts when the solicitors get in the game. Im sure you know that anyways. They seem to make a small issue grow to extreme sizes :/

Anyways i hope this dont happen and all goes spiffingly :)

TBH you are a lot better off nowdays with mortgages, I speak as someone who has had three mortgaged houses in the past.

First the whole endownment (interest-only) debacle is over, you can get repayment (capital + interest) at reasonable rates nowdays.

Second, the conditions on special tie-in schemes are a lot more flexible, my previous house had a discounted rate for the first 5 years, but you had to buy their insurance and you got a penalty if you sold within that time, I actually sold a mere 10 days short, but they had relaxed the rules by then, saving me around £2000.

Lastly, the options to pay off early, or to increase mortgage payments, are looked on as more favourable. In days gone the mortgage companies wanted to chain you up for the entire loan, now competition has forced their hand.

I know its a bit late but you should always get a mortgage with a building society, not a bank (or any of those that coverted to a bank), because (a) they are better rates in the long run, and (b) if they do get carpetbagged, then you get a windfall.

I am now in the enviable position of having a nice priced property with a nice low mortgage, second only to outright ownership. This was gained through years of getting screwed by mortgage companies and such, but get your feet on that ladder early and it will bring benefits, just be patient.

Well, that's assuming the rumours are untrue.

Good luck matey :D

If it makes you feel better, when I bought my house, I had no problems with solicitors at all, I think it was 6 weeks from offer to completion.

Nothing like having your own place :D

Oh, I already do. Well I did. It was my own place but then I moved the missus in and it's hers now. I just cook.

I'm in the process of selling my house at the moment, although I havent found anywhere I want to buy yet.

So, it will be storage and renting while we look around for somewhere thats suitable (we're moving to the other end of the country, so its a bit more tricky) . And yes, it WILL have cable internet , Im hoping that I hit lucky on a Telewest 2mb connection tbh :)

Solicitors... pah.... you pay them so much money and then have to chase round the banks, and everyone else, just to keep things moving. This should have been sooo easy, no chain, im selling to a first time buyer.. simple eh? Well, it would have been if the bank had received the request for the deeds when the solicitor said they sent it, and if the solicitor had received my forms when I had sent them. Instead, the whole thing was held up for three weeks, while everybody waited for everyone else to do something.

Seems to be moving now though, thank the lord, and with a bit of luck I shall be completing in a couple of weeks.

Stress!! GRRRRRR!!
