Well the time has come to move away from my exisiting hole to move to a cheaper more convienient hole. Being a student last year and now a semi-professional work (W00T), I want to ensure I get my deposit back. ANy advice you guys could given to make sure that I don't get taken for a ride, would be appreciated.

not _quite_ on topic, but should help you out a bit, a lot of good stuff was mentioned in this thread.

other than that, good luck :)

You should have got a full inventory when you moved in, if not then your landlord may try to take the piss (my old landlord did). Some letting agencies charge per hour to hire in cleaners if the place isn't tidy when you leave, so get cracking (don't forget the oven :) Unlucky...)

That's if you're talking about getting your deposit back from the house you are moving out of? Its early and my brain is sticky.

Get professional cleaners and get a reciept, then if the landlord tries to screw you for cleaning bills you either (a) claim they are lying using the receipt as proof, or (b) claim on your cleaners for not doing a good job.

You can reduce the cost of cleaners by doing a lot yourself beforehand, most of them will come into a house and, after the obligatory sharp intake of breath, demand more money. It sounds stupid cleaning before the cleaners arrive but you will benefit eventually and stop yourself getting taken for a ride by the landlord.

As far as cleaning goes this is whats happened

Back garden has been mowed and excess growth removed.

(can't do anything more really)

OVen clean, hobs clean, back of oven clean, washing machine cleaned, kitchen cupboards cleaned, fridge clean, microwave clean, all bedrooms clean, bathroom clean (tiles have beeen bleached so too has the toilet), carpets have all been hoovered (and stains if any treated with stain remover) windows have been clean, All Items are accounted for, no permeant damage inflicted other than normal ware and tear. Only concern is that 2 tiles have cracked in the kitchen, main reason being that they weren't grouted properly.

also scent sprayed around.

EDIT:: Also will be taking pictures of the house, plus maybe even a piccie of me soon w00t
