Movies and codecs

So, whenever I download a movie it says, 'Cannot download codec' or something of the sort. What do I do?

Format your computer. Failing that, buy a new one.

iirc it just means that MS don't have that codec on their server available for download, most commonly used codecs are included in the K-lite codec pack. Couldnt find a link without warez on it, but the md5 hash of the 227f version is ea46de0f974a0cfdd1359737df92fb20

Anyway, just google for the latest versions:

DivX codec v5.2
XviD codec v1.0.1
AC3 codecs

Its a small proggy that tells you exactly what codecs (audio and vid) you require for whatever file you drag over it.

For mpeg you might need the SVCD codec

Note however, that some of those Codices are coming with a bunch of spyware crap, especially Gator (aka Gain) etc. Make sure to install Adaware or Spybot to delete this junk.

What he said - i only use ac3filter and ffdshow and i can play *any* movie.

dont listen to them, all you need is "VLC player". NO CODECS NEEDED ever again! just search for VLC on google and you'll find tons of links to it. I have never had to download a codec since I downlaoded VLC. Best prgram ever.

What he said - i only use ac3filter and ffdshow and i can play *any* movie.

ffdshow + ac3 and you can play 99,9% of all movies. some .mpegs might require some SVCD codec but its rare :X

VLC is nice but i like mpc better :X
