Counter-Strike 1.6's BETA version has been delayed until mid-December--a delay of roughly a month--according to the Steam website. CS 1.6 BETA will be available freely for those who try out Steam 2.0 (which will also be in BETA form). I have a question.

Does the fact that 1.6 is being run by/through steam, mean that you can only download the patch if you have the game installed?

I ask because, as your prolly aware, Im a 56ker, so I do my DL's at work, burn them to CD, then install. If I have to have the game installed, then that wont be possible.

Steam is Valve's broadband content delivery system.

They will release 1.6 final as a Steam-free version, but not 1.6 beta.

You don't need steam (yet). You will be able to D/L as you would normally.
