I know XP aint out yet - so no flamage for that.

Problem - the mouse jurky in CS 1.3 with XP.

It was fine with win2K, but with XP it is very un-smooth and is worse while strafing (which is most of the time :(( )

My kit:
T'Bird 1GHz@1133MHz(133*8.5)
ASUS A7V133 bios 1005a (lastest)
384Mb Crucial CAS2 PC133
Geforce 2MX (Detonator XP drivers)
SB Live! (v3507 drivers)
Yamaha CD-RW
Creative DVD
Windows XP v2600
MS Intellimouse explorer (USB) (driver version 4.01)
MS Natural Keyboard pro (USB and PS/2)

TIA, GAteKeeper

One of the lads in our clan complained about something similar. I think he said it was down to the fact the mouse acceleration was always on, or something.
I don't think he found a solution, but I'll post any updates.

OK serious answer,

i have same mouse, ram, and CPU, and i have had it all on win 98 , 95 and win me.....so it look's like it has to be win xp yea, on ur mouse u can have it USB or use the adapter thingy, try pluging it into the standard mouse port using the adapter.....

also, if u use the intelli point software, upate it, then check if Custom pointers are on, the acceleration is on and any hide pointer while typing is on or pointer trails, just make it as "normal"
as possible........

Will you please fuck off making pointless amounts of posts when you can say it in one.

You getting your post count up is of no relevence to anyone.

YOu simply look like a spamming idiot and this is who the forum will remember u in future.

Anyway gate, apperently mouse acceleration is set to always on in winXP, u need to turn it off from the registry. Or so someone told me. DOnt know the key though, try asking in irc.

Graphics Card Drivers

I had win XP on for a small amount of time. I had the same problem and also had the mouse being very laggy in game. I found a cure for it..........

Changed my Graphics card drivers and it fixed it straight away. Try that Could work for you

There was the old mouse-lag in Unreal Tourney, but that was down to VIA motherboards and Nvidia graphics cards. Im sure the solution to that one was the 4in1 drivers from VIA.
This problem from what I've heard effects all FPS.

Solution:

add -noforcemparms and -noforcemaccel to your hl/cs command line and in the advanced controls turn mouse filter OFF

that should fix it :)

Ok i thought i might update you all.

After almost breaking my keyboard because of this annoying problem i did some tinkering and i have reduced the effects to a usable level. Its still there but i can shoot while moving and actually hit something thats not a fluke :)

My CS command line:

C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstrike +voice_dsound 1 -noforcemparms

(The sound thing is to fixed the voice comms sounding fucked up)

Windows mouse settings:
(Control Panel->mouse->pointer options)

pointer speed - about halfway
Enhanced accelleration - off

Control Panel->Accessability options->Mouse->Settings

Mouse speed: Slow (far left)
Accelleration: Low (far left)

and mouse filter off in CS

This all needs a reboot to get it working (just to make sure)

Not sure which one of these made it a bit better but i hope this helps some peeps

BTW i am running Intellipoint version 4.0 (lastest i think)

VIA

Have VIA released 4in1 drivers that work with XP yet?
Do not update 4-1 drivers unless you are experiencing problems.

Microsoft Windows XP has native XP support and 4-1 drivers usually are not needed.

Please read over the VIA Driver Installation Guide before installing.
Not experiencing problems - with VIA mobo - HAHAHAHA!
4.35 Final- Official Windows XP driver - Added an ACPI patch for XP.
FINAL!!! hahaha, bet they have to release a new one next week 'cos it fails 'under certain rare circumstances', like on a PC that had something plugged into it like a sound card from creative (or an ATI card), (or indeed a microsoft mouse!). They are sooo crap at testing their drivers it is unbelievable. Intel compatible my arse! They really do make me cross.

If not your VIA mobo will not work properly at all - possibly this is your problem? I had lots of initial problems with my VIA mobo - ie. my modem, nor any periperal, would not work with out 4in1 drivers which needed d/l ing from the VIA website (difficult when your modem's not working :( ), not only that, but the installer did not install all the drivers needed for my ATI graphics card to work properly, so when I worked this out, I did a manual install of the mobo drivers and finally, after several late nights, ny PC worked!!!!!

Hope some of this helps. :D

BTW I now avoid, with extreme prejudice (if possible):
  1. Anything from VIA.
  2. Anything from AMD (usually go with item 1).
  3. Anything from ATI.
  4. Any OS version that is less than 6 months old (any OS v *.0 always crap, buggy and expensive).
  5. Tight T-Shirts (I'm too fat and look silly in them) :).

Dunno if this really helps you but I tried the " if your computer compatible with XP" cd that was in some magazine. Basically it said this:

Incompatible Hardware Accessories
The following programs support your computer hardware; however, they are incompatible with Windows XP. To see whether updated versions of these programs are available, visit your hardware manufacturer's Web site.

IntelliPoint (on the Start menu)

I haven't updated the drivers in ages so maybe it's just that, but quite frankly how Microsoft can make an OS that doesn't support their own mice I dunno.

still not working

my command line looks like this : C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -console -game cstrike -noforcemaccel

I am running a P3 500MHz, 256 SDRam, Inno3D 64MB Geforce 2 400MX, 2.1.8.3 NVidia drivers, Windows XP Evalution Copy build 2526, and a Logitech wheel mouse with 9.41.0.0 drivers.

Its like the mouse is sticking when holding the cursors down to move in CS.

I've tried re-installing drivers for graphics card and mouse, re-installed hl & cs, still didn't work.

Tried below too :

Windows mouse settings:
(Control Panel->mouse->pointer options)

pointer speed - about halfway
Enhanced accelleration - off

Control Panel->Accessability options->Mouse->Settings

Mouse speed: Slow (far left)
Accelleration: Low (far left)

and mouse filter off in CS

This all needs a reboot to get it working (just to make sure)

The thing is I'm sure when I first installed XP (as an upgrade to 2K) it worked fine I didn't notice the sticky mouse.

Anyone any ideas?

Try using the adaptor (that came with the mouse) so you can plug the mouse through the PS2 port.

What i have found is that the mouse jumps while there is a lot of CPU usage if the mouse is plugged through the USB. This is also causes the mouse to slowdown sometimes.

Try updating the intellimouse software (not from the windows update), & try the PS2 adapter for a while.. see if that helps!!
