I got me an Intellimouse Explorer 5 button jobby, but its fooked, keeps pointing wherever it wants and stuttering etc etc. I dont trust the Micr0$haft technology so I'm asking if anyone knows of an ergonomically designed (ie: fits nicely in hand with buttons placed perfectly) 5 button analogue mouse?

Any ideas?

Have you checked there's no tiny bits of hair/fluff/crap over the ickle lens first? Have a good look, even a tiny amount can cause those problems.

I luv my Intellimouse Explorer V3 :p

I bought it OEM so came with no drivers, but works great with XP anyway :)

Also can I ask what your mousing surface is like?

It cant really be white or reflective, or transparent. Black is good :)

Fluff and crap is not the problem. It was once but then I cleaned it :) I believe I have the latest drivers, got them off the net about a month or so ago, so I doubt that they are the problem. The surface the mouse is on is a creamy coloured table with a fake wood grain effect on it, although the mouse has worked fine on this surface before.

The only other scrap of info I can give you is that I quite often swap weapons in CS without actually pressing anything (mouse button 3 = quick draw pistol, mouse wheel forward = he grenade, etc), which gives me reason to believe that either the mouse itself is fooked or it just doesn't like my system.

Help.

your problem lies in the cable, it's broken somewhere
my intellieye was like that from new :/

take the thing apart and pull the cable plug off
now write down the colours corresponding to the pins on plug
cut the plug off about 3 inches down and solder the wires straight on. Otherwise it's gonna cost you...

Why dont you try putting it on a Black Surface? I remember when i had a Pine Wood Table, the mouse would do exactly as you said, but once i got a Mouse Mat down, it worked fine.

My Intellimouse works fine now, only problem now is, i continuously press Right Mouse by accident, because the button has a "light" feeling to it.

If you opened up your Mouse as FunGas said, wouldnt that invalidate your Warranty?

Why not try it on another Computer, if it goes all Whacky on that, then ask for a Replacement, if it works fine, then its gonna be your computer

I always heard Microsoft replaced their Intellimice at the drop of a hat. If I were you I'd phone them up and explain it's fooked. I reckon they'll send you a replacement without a problem.

that is totally corect, ive had abuot 6 mice from microsoft replaced in the past 2 years *cough* ;), all they ask is how old it is, serial number/part number(from bottom of mouse), tell them whatsup and 3-5 working days later you will have a v3 replacement on your door =))

Lol, you know ho Microsoft have this thing where they always do something wrong?

Well..

When my Mouse was playin up, i went to their Support Page, they told me to enter the Mouse' PID Number, so ,i looked, found, and typed... it didnt accept the PID?!?

There was 17 Numbers for my PID, but i had to have 18?!? WTF lol, so i had to email Companies like the place i bought the mouse, and my mobo manufacturers (Abit)

Eventually, i fixed it myself, by just takin out my ADSL modem and lettin my USB mouse be alone

Is this under their warantee then? I've had an IE since they first came out, err march 2000? Could I get another one if it suddenly broke now? :)

Funny you should ask that. I've just reformatted my system and stuck Win2k Pro back on it and although it worked to begin with, after the thrid reboot the mouse was not recognised on the system at in PS2 mode, ie: it wasn't there in anyway, shape or form.
When I swapped it to USB it started to load the drivers but then said that it couldn't because of an unknown error, so I was left with an unknown USB device attached to my computer.
I finally managed to get it working in USB, and the surface thing does appear to have something to do with it after all. The mouse is currently sat on top of my black nylon CD case and does indeed track much better, although it still gets stuck sometimes.

I would still prefer a similar shaped/buttoned analogue mouse as they work far better imo.

Must admit, its a hell of a lot better, but nowhere near what it used to be. Plus I dont get why Win2k doesn't believe its attached to the computer via PS2.
