mouse lag !

anyone using an ms intellimouse explorer (optical) ?

lately my gaming has felt laggy (modem levels), but my pings have been rock steady @ ~ 55 .

today i got fedup with it and tried my old mice, and this was what i found

1) ms ps2 one over-clocked was horrid

2) ms usb one was very smooth (but feels really small afet the explorer one)

3) ms optical one IS as laggy s hell !


a few mth's ago it was fine, so i wondered if anyone else had had the same problems ?

is it tied to one of the patches ?

i like the shape of the new mouse and the extra button is good (bound to rl) and i really miss it.... any sugestions ?

The only problem i have with my explorer is the way it flicks me around every now and then - not a serious problem though - as far as mouse lag is concerned - i dont think i get any,im using intellipoint 3.1 with windows 2000 - seems ok
i take it you are using 3.1 and not an older version ?
could be a lot of stuff realy :/
try the explorer in ps2 and the usb holes see if that makes much of a diff

AH HA!

Someone else did have this problem other than me!!

Right.... the way i installed the mouse the 1st time round was to leave the exsisting ps/2 mouse inserted, and then plug the usb one in live. install the driver and bobs yer uncle.

Then one day i was messing about with irq`s trying to get my cap card working, so it messed up the usb irq and redetected it. Worked fine in q2, ut, doom and tribes. But when i played q3 it would seem laggy.

go into the 1st screen off q3 after the intro and move it up and down really fast, it looks and acts like it has a rubber band attached to it.

Im not sure how i got round it, but one of the following did the trick

Put old PS/2 Mouse back on, completly removed every trace of the USB inteli mouse ( and removed the INF file from Windows/Inf ) and rebooted. then inserted the mouse back into the usb live and reinstalled the drivers from the disk

also i removed every trace of q3 and reinstall from fresh.

So far "touch wood" it hasnt gone back since. i sent off a "report" to ID, but i havnt heard a wisper.

TheGuyver - ive tried a full format/install of everything and no luck (i ment it when i said it was anoying me .... )

Kryten - im not sure what version i am using (i guess its 3.0, the one of the cd ?), ill try downloading 3.1 and see if it helps.

ah but did u do the ps/2 mouse thing?

i also re isntalled windows etc with the same results.

only when i installed it with a PS/2 mouse and pluged it into the USB port did it work.

i did not explicitly say it, but 1) was done with the optical one still in, but ill try again, just in case
