Can you be more specific? "Tell me everything, and email/icq me" posts are a little annoying, and not likely to elicit a response.

just a few questions really
i have like read dvla stuff, and thats just made me more confused.
at 16 u can ride a moped with a provisional licence, which i have, as long as it dont exceed 50 cc
at 17 u can have a 125 cc ?? is that on the provisional licence with cbt certificate, or do you need the full A or A1 mortorbike licence.
at 21 with a full A motorbike licence u can take a test on a big machine of any size engine. Also what about having a car licence and motorbike licence ??
and... how much is tax and insurance, i know for a 50 cc honda it cost 15 pound road tax, and about 50 pound insurance, what is it for say a 125 and a bigger 750 machine.
thanks.
i really need to know all this stuff, weather it is right or not.
im particually interested in getting a honda moped, 50 cc to start with then getting a honda 125 shadow, then when 21 getting a shadow 750
any ideas how good these are ?

Yeah, go fer a Honda CBR Fireblade 900
smile.gif

heh, classic. hmm if u want ALOT of GRMMUUNMMPHHHHH !! AHH!!!!!!!!! then buy an old Triumph, or another ENGLISH bike.

Any old bikes were only actually any good from the UK.

Jap bikes had no compression. american bikes were made to go abt 50,00000000000000000 miles without a fuel change. so massive tanks and shit engines.

Harleys are nice lookin, with alot of respect and cred. if u are after a woman tho. u are most likley to get some old fagotty fat slapp.

u want a new bike fer a modern bird.

like that nice Honda CBR Fireblade. or a GSXR. yammy's are nice these days too.

The are a number of reasons why not to buy a harley:

1. they are as slow as a 1 litre Ford Fiesta.
2. they have shite brakes.
3. they have shite suspension.
4. they dont handle.
5. the geometry of the bikes dictates that taking a corner at anything faster than 20 mph is life threatening.
6. They are far heavier than a motorcycle should be.
7. they are badly engineered.
8 they look sooooo tacky and ugly its embarrasing.
9. lots of celebrity flim star/rock star twats who know nothing motorcycles ride them because they think its cool...rotfl - what utter cunts
smile.gif
.
10. the only type of women you ever see riding pillion on harleys are fat sweaty boilers who list farting and sweating as hobbies.

Reasons to buy a Harley:

1.if your into men apparently "I ride a Harley" gaurentees you a shag in the blue oyster club.
2. thats about it really.

oh and who said they just bought a fireblade 750 !!!! rotfl....get real theres no such thing.

Now a suzook GSXR750 is a masterpeice of engineering/speed and beauty and you can get a decent two year old one for about 5k which is pretty reasonable for a 170mph motorcycle. Insurance expense is a bit shite if your under 25 though

I had a Suzuki 100 many years ago, and it was very reliable. Triumph riders may sneer, but at least I never had to get me toolkit out on a wet byroad miles from nowhere.

Vespa make a stylish scooter, and some of those Italian mopeds go up to 200cc, I believe. Speed, economy, and style.

I stopped riding motorcycles when I grazed the side of a schoolbus on a winding byroad in Ireland. The bus suffered no damage, I'm glad to say.

Ask these buggers who're so keen on super-bikes how many pins they've got in their legs, or how many times they've seen the inside of a casualty ward.

If ya can't lift it with ease off the ground, don't ride it. Get crash bars added (to guard your legs), if you get a bigger bike.

You'll get more birds is you get a smart little second hand car, anyway. So much more intimate, so handy for lifts.

Ups! did I say 750, I meant 900, bought it for my dad see (long story) anyway, he says its the best bike he ever owned (and I have the brown stains from pillioning) and hes owned a lot of bikes. Triumph Bonneville was his last favourite which he had in the 60s.

Frankie, dont know if the law changed since I passed me test (1988) but then, you could request motorcycle entitlement on your provisional license BUT had to pass the bike test within 2 years or be banned for a year. If you passed car test, then u could ride bike up to 125 with L-plates indefinitely.

I once borrowed my mums Tomos. BAD mistake, dont do it. 30mph max and no bird would ever look at you again.

nice, thanks for the info guys.
yeah looks like ill be getting that suzuki katana sport, 50 mph unrestricted.
yeah, the laws the same, still i dont understand half of it, it so varied with many restrictions and all sorts.
oh well, ill just move to america, get a big bike, and cruise whole of america, with them long, open, and empty roads, not very likely to hit a bus.

cheers

1 more question
how old do ya have to be to drive
i know u can learn to drive at 17 with provisional licence, and i know u can take the theory test at 17, but how old do u have to be to take practical test, and to actually drive, is it 17 or 18
im bit stupid when it comes to law

Why not try a suzuki SV650N -- retro looks combined with modern performance and v.cheap too! (4 grand)

Or if u want to scare yourself shitless try a GSX1300R Hayabusa

Both @ Suzuki.co.uk

(NOTE -- the pigs now have a Super Blackbird so a 'Busa is the only thing you're going to get away from them on

Just a few thoughts for the Fireblade owner above,

Goin fast in a straight line on main roads gets BORING and is sad after a bit! I know i used to have a tuned RG500 (eat fireblades).

Now got Aprillia RS250 (40mph round roundabouts! hehe) which is much more fun and eats fireblades on country roads (70bhp when tuned!)

Sell fireblade and get one of these m8, keep license a bit longer and get radical lean/knee down! Seems a shame to waste that last bit of rubber on the edge of your tyres!

you got to be 17 to drive a car or motorbike but there are some restrictions on the power output (34bhp) i think, until you are 22 i am not sure on this as they keep changing the law. get in touch with your local training centre coz its definitly the quickest way to get a licence. look in yellow pages or buy a copy of motor cycle news every weds.
insurance is a fortune if you are young but
if you pass your test asap you will find away to afford it, i know i did!
rockhard is right there is nothing better than sticking it up the inside at an island under heavy braking, especially when the other bike is 2-3 times the size of yours
2 stroke sports bikes rule for fun
but i also like big 4 stroke twins and brit classics

hi frankie.

you`ll get used to terms like volvo'ed when you get on a bike in town a bit, you can ride around all nice then some twat in a volvo pull out of a junction/changes lanes into your path.

You really want to get a modern bike though, if you get a harley the bike aint got the brakes to stop volvo'ing being painful or terminal.

when you are 17 you could get a bandit 600 ( there is a restrictor kit for it that a good dealer can fit) insurance is reasonable, reliabilty is mint, they are dead cgeap secondhand, thanks to yamaha and their fazer, and tehy are fun and have a bit of attitude.

i had one (non restricted)as my first bike and am dead pleased with it, although now i am looking to change to a sports bike with a fairing cos my neck is like mike tysons (only whiter)

Earth calling Frankie

-- a capri fast? You've got to be fucking joking
I was on a 400cc sportsbike when the volvo hit me + even that could do 0-60 in about 4.5 seconds!
