Anti-Sat missiles could easily be designed to home in on the signal - or force the owners to shut them down.

Yeah, because something the size of a small light aircraft travelling at 3,000kph some 20km above the earth's surface is dead easy to hit with a missile.

They could always take a Shuttle up... EVA out the payload doors over to the satellite and start smashing at it with a good ole fashioned hammer

Wikipedia says you owe me a tenner.

After 1000 tries I could probably throw a dart into the bullseye at 50 feet. Doesn't mean I could do it every time.

Rather higher than that I thought. And it's not that difficult, depending on if your interceptor is capable of achieving orbit at the required height. It's not like you need to hit it right the fuck now, just get into orbit, adjust to catch up, and when close fire engines to get enough relative velovity and thus kinetic energy for the kill.

Actually, I seem to recall something about a system to have 'satellites' up there designed to do just this. They're already there, in an appropriate orbit (probably higher than potential targets), so all you need do once you have a target is work out the small adjustments to orbit to intercept.
