More Event stuff - spanish guy in cam

I thought this might be the best place to post any sightings or ideas on the campaign events as they affect all 3 realms.

Anyway, in Camelot City we've got this ersatz "spanish" geezer named Inigo de Camelot (truly desperate name I know).

He spends most of his time overlooking the Round Table and anyone who tries to speak to him gets this dialogue.

"Hola friend. Ye sorry ma ye' do not have much time for you. La king service cannot wait! Good day to you!"

Even to my sub 'O' level standard in the language this looks like bad pidgeon Spanish. I was halfway expecting him to be followed by a tall gangly man with a silly mustache whacking him over the head muttering about someone called "Sybil..."

Spanish for "king" is "rey" and I'm pretty sure it would be "El Rey" not "La Rey" for "the king".

Oddly though there is a Norse word, "laking", it means to play outside, I think the literal translation is "to play out on the road".
Play ? Children ? Mischief ? Can we make a real leap in the dark here and pretend "laking" is some corrupted translation of "Loki" ?

If we do then from his dialogue I think Inigo is an enemy spy. Can anyone take this further or suggest ways of dealing with him ?

Perhaps look in the Roleplay section...

Interesting points though. At first I thought you were being negative towards the epic events team, then saw you were actually following a quite different train of thought.

And yes, I'm still sticking with the same theory that this guy and the kobold are both assassins. Although, he may be opposed to the kobold. Not quite sure.

That is a mixture of "English" and very bad Spanish, yes :)

On the word "leka"

Dialarez, i think the Swedish word you refer to is "leka", which means "play" .You can't use it about playing board/computer games or sports as there is another word, "spela", for that.

"Leka" means more like "child's play". Basicly when you're a kid you "leka" and when you grow up and don't do such childish things anymore, you "spela".

A bent and Englishified version of "leka" could be "leking". However, you can't say that in Swedish.

Loke would probably be amused at all the guessing going on. <winks>

One odd thing about the Spanish guy. Why would he have a name indicating he comes from Camelot, when he clearly can't handle the language very well? I'm sure his real name is something more... sinister.

Iningo translates into (something like) one of the following:

Ardent, passionate, enthusiastic, devoted, dedicated, zealous, fervent, eager.

So, perhaps, "The Lover of Camelot"... ;)

Actually it would be "leker" in that case, but as I wouldn't want to confuse by bending the verb, i wrote it as "leka", since "att leka" means "to play", while "jag leker" means "I play". Pffft. :)

He now says "...Le king service cannot wait..." etc. Not exactly a major breakthrough I know but it does scrub the "laking" theory and his "Spanish" is even worse than before :)
"Le" of course is used in French not Spanish.

BTW, I know everyone's been excited by the arrival of DF but its been a couple of weeks since we've had any major Events and there isn't that much of the summer left.
But given the dearth of chat about the campaign and Events, I wonder is anyone still interested ?

There is also some mad prophet wandering south of West Downs in the plains. Mumbles something about deamons - pretty strange coincidence with the arrival of DF...

Yeah, he isn't supposed to be disturbed, doesn't have time for us...and for a librarian that works around dust all day long, he sure sneezes a lot.

What the prophet says.

Here's the dialogue from a new NPC in Alb, he's a Saracen I think and he wanders the Plains south of WD.

Note the phrase "beyong the mountain", I'm pretty sure that should be "beyond".

"By the Moon and the Stars, you! Come to me! I need to confess myself, I need to relieve myself from the legacy of my ancestors! I must...Ahh, I am burning! He burns me! He is in me! All in me!"

[00:03:29] You target [Akai the Prophet]
[00:03:29] You examine Akai the Prophet. He is hostile towards you.
[00:03:29] You examine Akai the Prophet. He is hostile towards you.
[00:03:29] Akai the Prophet gives you a dirty look.

"Yes, may truth be told, I saw it in the stars! He is here once again, full of greed, greed for flesh and blood as never before. But he suffered you see, suffered so much... Sorrow and remorse, cries and sadness on the horizon...
Because the old one is not dead and, beyong the mountains, he watches his prey! Flee, flee before it is too late, his anger overcome your wisdom! Yes, in truth, Camelot the Eternal is no longer...
and the ashes of the arrogant will soon be scattered by the wind...The rose wither now and the Lis will no longer lean against her. Whitethorn et thistle, all they danse to his side, dreadfull gigue, Demonic saraband...
...honour to the spirits of a burning sand under a shameful past... In truth I tell you, the sowed seeds left a dark harvest. And the price, the price must now be paid..."

The prophet lies down exhausted, out of breath, obviously drained by his sudden bursts of dementia... his confused look seems to stare into terrifying horrors...

And in the Princess Bride there's "My name is Inigo Montoya -You killed my Father, prepare to die!"

No connection whatsoever but a great film ;p
