Monster AI

flame me, if this has been posted before, but I ain't read it myself.

Some quick examples of advanced AI - we have monsters that use lower level monsters to "lure" unsuspecting players into encounters while the higher level ones hide. Halfway through the encounter, the higher level monsters ambush the players. We also have monsters that can shape-change to look like friendly players - they then try to pass themselves off as a player character, until they reveal their "true" form and attack. In one Hibernian expansion area, there is a procession of Sylvan that perform a ritual to "re-seed" the land by throwing magic dust in a lake, from which sprout small treant seedlings. This is a friendly event; however, this ritual is often attacked by Fomorian monsters; the player character can protect the ritual if they wish. In one part of the Albion expansion area, there are two keeps in close proximity to one another - one is manned by Avalonian guards, but the other has been taken over by Drakoran forces. Once in a while, when the Drakoran fortress is at full strength, the Drakoran pour out of their keep and attack the Avalonian keep. Players are encouraged to join the battle.

Holy Mackerel this SI is starting too look good, inter guard fighting
random ambient music, I'm getting excited:)

Now things are starting to cook!

Ive seen a few battles between mobs before, WWs and Svarts in Myrkwood, and its funny. Better still when ya down to 20% health and they decide they want some, svarts saved me a couple of times like that :)

mobs that start with infil/sb/ns style attacks. now that would worry me. Imagine you are resting from your last mob kill and you are PA'd for some silly amount of damage by a mob :D

Can you post a link to where you found this information? I'd like to have a read. Good stuff.

Matt Firor: Yes, we plan on having in-game graphics options that will allow you to set the game to run optimally on your particular hardware environment.

Should please all those 'jeez I'll need a new vid card' jockeys, don't upgrade, just have a 20ft draw distance :D

I don´t know about th other realms, but in Lyonesse we have mobs called Bean Nighe better known as beanies. They are highly transparent and will backsatb nuke you for some nice damage. Same goes for Cythrauls in Snowdonia if I´m not mistaken

Camelot Vault: Some people will choose not to purchase the expansion pack. Do you believe they will be at any disadvantage as a result or will it simply be a case of missing out on the enhancements?

Matt Firor: It'll really just be a case of them missing out on the new stuff - they will probably have a lower frame rate in RvR combat, but other than that, players who don't have Shrouded Isles will not suffer from not having upgraded, other than they obviously won't benefit from the new content and classes, and the new superior graphics.

Sounds to me that the non-upgraders won't be getting a gfx engine upgrade afterall. Contrary to what was promised before.

I've been afraid they were going to do that ever since the round table event, when I looked all over the Mythic web sites for "the new graphics engine will be made available to all current subscribers" and couldn't find it. They never put it in writing anywhere. :(

I asked goa with rightnow. The graphics engine is ONLY available with the expansion.
Btw, when you said they never put it in writing ... is there a link to where they even implied it ... or was the free graphics engine myth one that was based purely on wishful thinking.

I remember reading it on a site. No idea on a link and quite possibly that page has been deleted since. But I remember that it was said the graphical enhancements would be part of the subscription.

I don't dream of these things and strangely enough neither do the others that read the same information. Also note that it's not really a free graphics engine since every daoc user pays a subscription.

Also, I will get the graphics update whatever as I'll buy the expansion back. But that's because I want to try out the new classes/races.
