Question Modelling Software

Any of you guys come across software that lets you draw working models?

I remember modelling the nitrogen cycle in university using a piece of software that let you pretty much draw it, assign values in the various boxes and arrows and then run the model - giving you outputs over time (and a visualisation of it occuring).

I've an idea I'd like something that could convert a working model you liked into code where you could assign inputs and outputs to variables. I never learned to program (in other than COBOL) and CBA now.

Just to play with, more than anything else. So if it's pretty, like a nice pair of shoes, then even better

hmm chemical modeling software is likely specialist stuff. when you said modeling I thought of UML, entity relationship stuff and software design and patterns, GRASP, GoF, FURPS(+) and all kinds of other shiznit. To draw models for that I used Powerdesigner (which was cool because it could transform your logical model in to a physical one and then output SQL from that (PD made by Sybase, natch), but you can also model UML in MS Visio. Currently I use a program called Astah for my general E-R and UML studies






Astah domain models look something like this (yeh, it's in Dutch ):



No idea if I got it right, the teacher is refusing to talk to me, the cvnt. Astah and PD can output the model in a varity of OO languages like Java, C#, etc.


Anyway prolly not what you're after but hey ho, I tried :-D

PD is not free, but can be tried out, but astah is free for personal use whereas there also is a paid version.

also, the amount of options and models the programs cover are immense. therefor there is something of a learning curve 0o
