Modding game sound from midi to wav?

Hey all

I'm looking at modding a game's sound from midi to a higher media format - its one of these crappy budget games where they've cut the original music out and put in very basic midi music instead, which really is kinda poor.

I have the .wav versions of the music, and I was wondering if it would be possible to mod the game so that it uses my sound files instead of the midi ones it currently runs?

The game is Sonic and Knuckles Collection btw

I imagine this will be either impossible or very very hard, but I just wanted to ask on the off chance that someone knows
