mod pack problems...help

I'm totally new to unreal tournament and i want to play online seems to me you need all sorts of files, every time i try to connect to a server my game starts down loading all kinds of files i tried downloading the mod pacs 1 and 4 (which took bloody ages) and now i finaly have them (two 14 meg files) what the bloody hell do i do with them ?? as there aint any instructions Duh ???

what format are they in?

i.e .umod or a zip full of files

the .umod can be double clicked from within the zip and will self install, the zip full of files is an arse and needs you to extract all the .unr files to the c:\unrealtournament\maps directory, the .utx go in the c:\unrealtournament\textures directory, the .umd go in the c:\unrealtournament\music directory and so on, there should be a readme.txt file in the zip explaining this in better detail as I am taking this from my memory.

The files you are downloading are typicaly game improvemants like CSHP and a version eg. 4r which has evolved due to players using a client end program installed into their UT which allows them to run auto aiming which does not miss, known in the community as an aimbot, some of these cheats also enable radar like fetures.

yes the file is a 14 meg umod file i tried double clicking it and this box appears saying "file missing quickview.exe" my computer is running windows 2000 cant see that making a difference though as most stuff these days is win 2k compatible any other suggestions??? thanks for your reply anyway

Unzip the .UMOD into C:\UrealTournament\System and then close the winzip window.
Open windows explorer and go into the above folder and then try double clicking it from in there. If that fails right click the .UMOD and from the menu select "open with" and browse for Unrealtournament.exe and select it.

If you`re just getting started with UT then I wouldn`t do any mods right now. If a server has a mod and it takes a while to download then just find another server. Some mods can screw with the settings and give you missmatch vesions. I would just do the 436 patch and the bonus packs!!
