Anyone wanna recommend a decent mobo <£100 for

Althon 2800+ XP
2 x 512Mb DDR 3200 ram
Seagate 120Gb HD
GF5 5600 256Mb Aopen GFX

I have decided to gooner the Asus A7N8X-X for a variety of reasons, and wondered if anyone has any decent suggestions?

Chaintech do a nice one with an N-force 2 chipset 7NJS Ultra Zenith. Onboard lan, firewire, s-ata, raid and 6.1 sound.

Drop the 256mb version of the graphics card, it's more or less useless compared to the 128. And the extra price :(

Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2 - £87.54 Inc VAT from OcUk

Epox 8RGA+ nForce2 - £96.35 Including VAT from OcUk

With the money you save from getting the 128 meg version of that card buy a better cpu, better HDD or a bloody good night out ;)

Oh and you might consider a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb over the nvidia Geforce FX.

prob is I bought it all together, im binning the mobo back to dabs as its shite and not as advertised (they said it had the 5.1, and it even says it on the box but it only has 2 chn sound).

I do still have my old GF4 4200, might try that instead.

Only 2 channel? Are you sure it wasn't a driver/software problem rather then it just didn't have 5.1.

I recently built a system with that very same motherboard and it was brilliant. As for the gfx. No way you can return it?

I have exaclty the same spec as you there & i use the Asus A7N8X Deluxe nForce2. Great board easy to install & has 5.1 on it. Nice and easy BIOS updating thing too.

Edit: I also have the same GFX card as you from Leadtek. The drivers don't run SI in full well & you need to revert back to classic shadows to stop it locking up in SI zones. They are working on it with Nvidia apparently. The card is DX9 compatible though so it will last you longer than you old card.

Recently built exactly the same system for my mate with that board and MSI fx5600 256 mb. The SI problem is as the above poster stated, a known problem, that I think nvidia will fix soon :)

Other games run great on it, and with the shadows set to classic its cool in SI too :)
