Hi :)

I have a Nokia 3210 on one2one and have just moved to a flat. The phone gets nuf coverage outside but none indoors. Is there anything I can do or am I SOL? I've just signed up for 18 months one2one

it does actually have an aerial, just not in plain view.

and it works better than my old mobile, even indoors.

but then again im on Orange network and not pants 1 to 1

The aerial for the 3210 is inside the casing. It does not affect the signal in any way, shape or form.

Sorry, it's just that one2one is pants I'm afraid. I've got a friend in Surrey Quays, and he has a similar thing... you can pinpoint the spot in his flat that, where you walk across, the signal drops from 5 bars to 0. And yes, it's due to the construction of the building blocking the signal. However, I don't have any problems with either my Orange or Vodafone mobiles in his flat at all. Go figure.

I think you're a bit screwed mate.

No worries, I'll prolly get a cheap ass orange pay as you go and divert the calls, prolly cheaper than getting a 2nd phone line .... I also asked the bloke in the local mobile shop and he reckons that one2one are putting up three new ariels in this area, starting in a couple of weeks, so I don't know what to do now :(

get one of the ariels put in your flat
the phone will work ,in your flat.
it will also save you on cooking bills,
just put a pie near the arial,
30 secs should it,
in fact, you could start a pie
cooking service ,for all the local shops.
lol

Stu-

I have decided to get a second telewest line for now, hopefully in a few months they will launch cablemodems which will negate the need for a second line indoors, this also has the advantage that I can use that phone to 'use' my 10 quid of call allowance I get w/ SU.

Someone at work told me that he'd found a place on the net to buy (legitimately) BT Cellnet SIM cards, with 12 months rental, for £30. I'll see if I can find out where he got it from. Sounds ideal for you to me: get one of them, stick it in your current handset, and off you go.

The 3210, 8210, 8810, 8850 all have 'unidirectional' aerials, the signal strength basically depends on the way they are pointing, due to the fact that at the bottom of the aerial there is a shield to stop it interfering with the phones circuitry...

don't get another phone, grab an orange sim connection pack and unlock the 3210, stick your sim into it and use that once you have set up the divert.

Unlocking a 3210 is easy, all you need is an MBUS cable (about £15 if you know where to look) and a piece of software, it removes the service provider lock that forces your phone onto the network who supplied it, making it sim-free.

You can then stick any uk provider sim card into the phone and use it, the 3210 is dual-band which means that it will support all four UK networks... (noone mention virgin)

I just buy my CDs from Dabs. Get 10 80minute ones for £8. That's plenty cheap enough for me, considering it means I get games for 80p, essentially.
