Bizarre problem, don't know when it started as its not something I do very often.....

Right click desktop
Properties
Settings
Advanced.... An error occured while Windows was working with the control panel file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DESK.CPL

I have a file called desk.cpl (size 217kb)

Win 98 SE and 28.32 dets on GF3Ti500.

I've reinstalled windows and the dets, same problem.

Thanks, but I don't think thats the problem. That article tells me how to extract from the CD, but I've done that (on install it worked fine), I do have the file, and its named correctly, just not working :(

P.S. I did try it, same error message .

I know what the problem is.

Its caused by the Updated Det Drivers (29.42?) When i installed them, when i went to Display Properties it would give me that Error. i looked everywhere but couldnt find a fix, so i had to unistall and put a backdated driver back in

(My Graphics Card is a GF3 Ti200 btw)

I went through a phase similar to the above.

Solution :

Physically de-install the gfx card. (Remove card completely)

Boot up using onboard video (if possible)

Shutdown.

Install new card

boot up

install older drivers.

Hmm what i did was (and it worked)..

Device Manager, right Click Display Adapters, Right Click, Unistall

Get your Driver CD
Reset Computer
Insert CD Into CD Drive
Boot Up into Windows, Install Drivers off CD
Reset
Et Voila

Uh, off topic, but WDM is Windows Driver Model and is basically a cross platform driver.
