Has anyone heard of/seen anything about this game? I just spotted it over at gametrailers, looks quite interesting. Set in some dystopian future where communication is highly monitored so resistance type peeps use Runners to get info to each other. It looks like it's basically a future based first person parkour (free-running) game. From what I've read, although you can get guns in the game, they want to steer clear of shooting and make it more of an action-adventure, focusing on the running and deciding what route to take across the city.

After seeing the trailer, I'm quite giddy about it although it does look a bit too clean-cut to be ingame, just reminds me of the KillZone PS3 trailer that was supposed to be ingame but turned out to be completely pre-rendered.

Anyway, check it out:

They haven't said too much about the game yet, the trailers on gametrailers and gamespot are supposed to be in-game. I hope it keeps the clean-cut look, I am beginning to get a bit bored of the direction FPS have taken recently being gritty and with a sepia filter over the top, everything is brown or darker shades of it, would be nice to see a bit of colour in a FPS bring back 'No-one lives forever' thats what I say.

Saw the trailer for this a week or so back. I didn't really like it as the this Parkour business makes me irritated. It's like that scene in Casino Royale:

Director: "Hay! How can we appeal to the "nu" generation?"

Yuppie: "I know! Let's put in some of that new fangled Parkour! All the kids are doing it!"

And this Mirror's Edge seems a tad pretentious where the designers are insinuating how they're "above" these two dimensional first person shooters.

Although it looks OK stylistically, the depth just doesn't seem to be there from what I've seen. Running through a city with pretty colours and little else just seems a little thin. I can actually see the majority of reviews going the way of Rise of the Robots for the 21st century.

Thing is, it depends on how free it is. I really enjoyed Assassins Creed and would have probably been happy to cut out all the combat and just had free running if the chases were a little bit more challenging. Hopefully they'll get it right in this one.

I didn't see them as saying they're better than other FPS's just that this one was going in a different direction.

watched the hd trailer on psn, the game looks frigging stunning the pics do not do it justice. ive read previews ofit on games tm and edge, tho theres been little shown away from roof tops. its suing the uinreal engine so if we are able to reach ground level and enter alot of buildings expect load times like mass effect had.

the devs have back tracked from thier elier fps comments and are now just calling it an action game. hope to hell the final game looks like the trailer:)

..But that does look cool and it is pretty exciting.. You'd prefer they just ran after eachother down the street as per a gazillion movie chase scenes? :S

I don't understand.

Plus, my dad, who is 50+, thought that sequence was awesome - so its not just about appealing to the "nu" generation..

Well the lack of AA is really really obvious and hurts the clean style imo. Still, once you get past the shitty tutorial, the game plays really well. I hope there are a lot of alternative paths to take in levels.

Well I dunno if it's an xbox thing or a projector thing but I'm not really noticing the lack of AA.

Also, this game is fucking DOPE! I got the impression from the videos that it might be a bit too easy, but it seems to be just challenging enough. Really satisfying when you pull off cool moves. Love itttttt.

Well lack of AA would never stop me buying a game, heh :) I think the constant whining this generation about no AA/slight tearing/some frame drops/upscaled from less than 720p is ridiculous. Why did it suddenly become unacceptable this gen?

Also, you sure UT3 has AA? I've never seen AA in UE3 games, even on PC the only way to get AA in gears/UT3 was to force it through the nvidia driver.

Anyway, played again and I like it even more. I love how fast you feel when you actually string a few good jumps together. Think I'll wait and see how the PC version runs, will probably look amazing on my PC.

Keep in mind it's EA so it'll probably have some shit DRM attached to it. I'll be buying the 360 version (because of impatience really). I might download the PC version to have a look at the difference (unless there's a demo in which case I'll just grab that).

The Demo will have securom as well. I just image my PC before I install a game with DRM, then roll it right back after I complete it.

I figured that. I think I've got it on my system already which does not please me. Probably came along with Supreme Commander. That has no activation though, to my knowledge.

Quite enjoyed the XBox demo version, but there wasn't as much free-form as I like...though to be fair, it was only the demo :S

Played through the 360 demo and enjoyed it, but I think i'll wait for it to drop in price after a few months. It doesn't feel the sort of game you want to pay full price for.

Yeah the game is quite linear in one respect, there's only really one path to take to a certain objective. The free-form aspect only comes in to the more specific free-running you do to get there, there's always a few different moves you can do. I've been having fun with the demo trying to find better/faster ways to get there. I've pre-ordered it and can't bloody wait, absolutely love this game.

Plus, on my projector it's giving me a bit of vertigo, looks amazingggg.

Yeah, that's why they put the blue dot in the center of the screen. Clearly it doesn't always do the job. I've been ranting about this game to a mate who gets motion sickness from FPS's, so I doubt he'll have a great time with it :). It's weird, he's fine with call of duty 4, but almost all other first person games make him ill.

I'm behind I know, but I only just connected my XBox up to the outside world last night. I played the demo, it seemed pretty good fun, but the plot/voice acting/characters. Oh my god, it made me wince.

I'm going to hang on for a second hand copy. Because I'm skint.

I'll be doing similar, not only because I'm unemployed atm, but also as I'm told it's only 6 hours long!

The online time comparisons don't do it for me, and the DLC will only be on the PS3, so the short game means I'm certainly not paying full price.

Plus, I'm going to finish Fallout 3 first.

Played the demo on Ps3 and thought it was pish. Platforming in 1st person DOES NOT WORK !!!

The fact that it's only 6 hours long means I won't even bother getting it 2nd hand.

/edit: The fact that I completed Prince Of Persia : WW on PS2 (on PS3 :)) just before this really highlighted how pants this game is. Even the weakest PoP game felt sooooo much better.

/edit2: Is the new PoP game coming out on PS3 ?

/edit3: The Zero Punctuation review of ME is excellent as always. Would link it but I'm at work...

I actually picked it up cheap yesterday. I almost broke my controller last night in frustration at one of the less obvious routes.

Gah, I really like this game and I was OK with spending £40 on it but for fucks sake this takes the piss :\

Play.com (UK) : Mirror's Edge : Xbox 360 - Free Delivery

£15 only about a month(ish) later. Grr.

Yep or you can go straight to Tesco and pick it up for 18 quid.

Great game though.

Won't be getting games at release dates anymore because almost every game that has come out in the last 2 months is now £20 brand new.

Yeah the prices have all dropped sharpish, problem is I was so hot for this game I wanted it immediately. Won't make that mistake again soon.
