I can't say for definite but I doubt it.
Since the engine prevents permanent mezzing by diminishing returns. i.e. The second mez on a mob lasts half as long, and the third half again etc...
I'm guessing even if the tune kept mezzing (Which I'm not sure it does, I think you have to actually play it again to remez), it would be subject to the above time restrictions.
In conclusion I think the mez works pretty much like a castable spell only the pretty green effects last longer
But I'm sure the more experience minstrels can correct me if I'm wrong

Duration applies regardless, if you continue playing when it wears off you will remezz next pulse. Generally you stop playing the song once the mez has hit.
