Minor collision in car - claim advice

All,

Was just reversing out of my drive and had a minor fender bender with a guy who was also manoeuvring in his parking bay opposite (and a big diagonal) to my drive. His was a hire car on his firm's insurance, mine is my car on my own. Frankly, I think it's both our faults. I was looking around as I always do reversing out (blind corner, I'm paranoid of murdering kids on it) but I can't look in all directions simultaneously. Similarly, he saw that there were no cars approaching from either direction in the road and proceeded to do his manoeuvring. He didn't say any of that, but I reckon it's pretty much how it went down. We swapped details etc.

What's the best way to formulate my claim? What shouldn't/should I say?

So turns out since I was reversing out of my drive it's automatically my fault since he was already in the road. Oh well. Claim made.

His being in the road does not give him a ticket to drive into you. Whoever told you it's automatically your fault is talking nonsense.

The reversing party will get the blame 99 out of 100 - be it fair or not.

We drove into each other. Fuck it, damage to my car is buff-out. Damage to his is more substantial (e class vs corsa) so all it costs me is a reduction in my *shudder* one year of no claims.

tbh I always thought if you reversing onto the highway then you are liable if you hit something

Trouble is, being a work vehicle they will basically replace the bumper even if it is a scuff and at the most expensive cost they can find.

Nah, their bumper was fucked. Cracked and buckled. Deffo needed replacing. Mine was fine.

From my experience of insurance companies, it doesn't matter what you think - you fill in their little form and they make it up between the two of them.
