Minimum specs for quake2

I was just wondering if I was the only one running Quake2 on a machine that maybe should be put out to graze.
I'm curious to know if anyone out there has a machine of lower spec than mine and can still rack up a good score, especially if they're in a clan.

mine's :
200mhz P1 mmx
640 x 480 res running 40 fps on a voodoo 2
zoom 56k external modem. (AT+MS=11) 36K
typical 31,200 bps connection rate

Please let me know what you're running on especially if you're a LMCTF looney.

g'day

Its coming right for us.........

aghh 200mmx.

When i 1st started q2 i used to be on a Cyrix 133, 98mb EDO ram and a 12mb V2 with a cirrus logic 2d card and keyboard, i thought it was the balls, until i upgraded to a AMD 300 k6-2. However i got in my 1st clan DB with the above setup and even successfully trialled and got into clan EVIL as well, then i got the Upgrade and the smoothness diff was unbelivable, q2 that moved, still nowadays every extra cpu cycle you have helps you a lot, especially on a modem where in CTF a lot of players on screen = a lot of work for the processor.

I know of a few good players on kak machines, [BBC]+Mattcake+ (hes on a 200), Bladrider (200 as well).

However i am going to upgrade more, because you can get smoother, at the mo im on the 300 with 128mb ram, single v2 etc.

vipo, you only get a connect of about 31200!?

from a 56k?

I normally get 49,333 from my Pace internal 56k when connection to BW.

Do you have the latest modem firmware? If not I suggest you update at and cap your connection speed above 40000 at least.

and as for the guys on LMCTF BW server, although I don't play there as much as I used to, on the whole they ARE a nice bunch of chaps (& possibly lasses as well

So keep playing, watch how the other 'more experienced' players play the game (I woouldn't bother watching me tho...

and you'll soon pick up some good tactics.

But most importantly....HAVE FUN ! Don't take it all too seriously and get stressed out about losing.

Oh yeah...and try and keep the teams even

He borrowed my PC when I went on hols (C300a at 464, V3, 128megs etc) and he was quoted saying 'yes, q2 is quite a bit easier on a fast machine...'

There u go peepal - get good at q2 by buying a fast machine!! Plus its always something to brag about...

HeHe!!!u think thats bad how about:-
pentium 166mmx!
64mb edo ram!
sis graphic adaptor with 2mb system ram!
4mb orchid righteous voodoo1!
14" monitor
on this system i run q2 at 640X480res and get a steady 18fps!
i'm not too bad tho' and get my fair share of frags. even with the rail which, incidentally i don't see cos i turn off all particle effects when playing online.
i am upgrading this week thanks to this topic.

cheers
brock landers.
