Its simple really , after the huge exposure the chilean mine got and seeing that the public interested in such stories those that were too slow to get the scoop are looking for similar situations elsewhere , im pretty sure after all the hype from the chilean one that a wasp entering a mine would be a hot story
These things happen every day , maybe not on the scale of the chilean one but they just don't generally get coverage
Yeah having worked in a news organisation for a few weeks now I've seen that when you pitch a story, the first thing they ask is "why is thisnews?" or why will people care right now? it always has to relate to something that is happening now or has happend recently
