Early reviews are looking pretty good (for the PS4 version anyway) and the game mechanics sound pretty interesting.

Just downloading it on Steam and will let you know what I think in a few hours.

Anyone else planning on getting this?

I'll be getting it, but probably on one of the newer consoles when I get one.

I wouldn't put much trust in reviews these days though, would much rather hear the opinions of people on here.

I think I've read those same reviews. They made me go from zero interest to possibly intending to buy this .... in several steam sales from now.

I don't have any time for LOTR or The Hobbit (or their "universe") and I have no interest in RPGs...

...BUT...

...it's been developed by Monolith and I've loved them since the days of NOLF. It uses their fantastic Lithtech engine. It's written by the lead designer/writer of Red Dead Redemption. And it's getting great reviews...

Bought it, really quite a lot of fun. Only played a little bit but love it so far.

Y got the ps4 version and been playing it a bit over the weekend. Got four or so hours in to it I guess.

It's really easy to get swamped by loads of orcs lol

Played this yesterday after purchasing on Steam, rather fun! So many ways of killing it is sometimes a toss up which to choose. Died once when not used to the controls, is it better with a controller? Killed two on the board. Going to try the Stealth mission kills 10 in 3 mins if I remember it correctly.

I like how you cannot restart so have to live with any failures. Very dynamic game play and the only annoying thing is how sometimes you can end up easily with a whole pack on you, if you run they track and find you. Kiting is doable to isolate one or two for quick kills then run again to thin the heard out. Did that on the first orc boss.

That's one of the good things, they hunt you but you can double back and pick them off one by one.

I don't think the control method is overly important really, a lot of the fights are semi-automated, its all about timing the counters and combos.

The multiple functions under one button is annoying though.

Friend tried both controller and keyboard and said the default keyboard setup isn't great but you can customise. Once you do that then he said that it was very playable and if he hadn't started on a controller he would prob have been happy playing on keyboard.

Have you settled on KBM or Control Pad? This is the first time I've played a game like this without a control pad and it's taking a while to get used to.

As far as I know the multi function button problems occur for both k/m and controller, E on the PC. I will probably end up plugging my PS3 pad in and having a go using that when I get some time to play it properly.

I'm still on KB but I do find the setup weird, I sometime miss out on quick kills due to the setup. My son won't give me his remaining Xbox one controller after dropping the spare and killing one of the bumper swicthes :( gonna have to buy one at the weekend. Still 36% through and just one more tier of abilities to get so its been ok.

I'm playing it on mouse + kb, only a couple hours in so far but really enjoying it. Combat feels tight and flows nicely.

Gameplay is nice but after the nth warchief/captain it gets kinda boring

storyline is a little dull and gameplay gets very repetitive after a while

Not a bad game just wish they had focused more on story than the "collect these runes and magic mindor coins and get shiny things"

And no loot! I wants phat loot

Yeah, have to agree. Not finished it and I imagine it will be added to the pile of games that I just don't finish. Getting quite common these days.

Agree with you both actually. Better story and stealth and this would have been great. The stealth is just too easy - it feels as though all the orcs and uruks always have their backs to me ready for a brutalisation.

Agreed, loot system and gear setup would have been a great addition. I still enjoy doing the timed trials etc. Some of the side quests are still quite challenging, where you a strong Warchief and 4+ captains against you. I still play it on the road when interweb connection is not great for MMO's etc.
