I also phoned them once, there is an automated system and if that doesn't work then you talk to an operator....even then it is fairly easy.

If only there was a way to view your code thingy on an installed copy of office, then you could write it down and not need to phone them again.

But if there is, I sure can't find it. :(

A tip for using automated phone services when you want to actually talk to someone is to press no buttons. The system has to (generally) be set up for people with old style phones. So if you do not press any buttons the chances are that you will eventually be routed through to a human.

well it seemed easy enough, I used the touch tone phone to type some id number out (was about 18 digits long), the automated thingy said it isn't valid then put me though to some guy who asked me to read out the same ID. Once I had done that he gave me another 16 digit ID to type in and then he said click next to activate it.

Dont really wanna be doing this every time I re-install, it would have been so much easier if he re-activated my CD key :(.

I don't want to do it all the time...hence my other copy doesn't require it ;)

Well I'm not gonna tell you where to find it but if your copy is legit I shouldn't see a problem with using the program rather than having to phone up.....

There's a util out there that will generate and check keys again st your system.

Using what program?

When I try tried to activate my OEM version of XP Pro it told me that I have used my key too many times, I guess you cant use the same key more than 7 times because I have probably re-installed 7 times over the last 6 months (I like a clean install when ever I put in new hardware).

Phoning isn't really a problem, its just an inconvenience, and the hassle of phoning would be made so much easier if it gave you the option to bypass the automated system and speak to a support guy straight away.

It's more likely the hardware changes that have caused you to have to reactivate windows not the reinstalls in that case... I had the same thing when I changed my mobo....

it is bloody annoying though TBFH....

you can, when it asks for a key type nothing and it presumes you have a pulse dialling phone eventually, not everyone has touch tone after all, and routes you straight to the next MS monkey
