Microsoft IntellType Pro problem

Hi :D

I have a Microsoft Natural Multimedia keyboard with multimedia hot-keys. In order to use the hot-keys I have to install the IntelliType driver. Ok, I have it installed and it's working fine. When it's loaded the name of it is: 'type32.exe'. The problem is that when type32.exe is running, most games I play crash to the desktop and 3DMark 2003 won't even run. Only solution to this problem is ctrl+alt+delete and end process of typ32.exe, but that means I can't use the hot-keys which I like to use :)

I installed the IntellyType Pro driver from the CD I got with the keyboard and that is v2.2

I wen't on Microsoft's homepage to search for newer driver but there was only that v2.2 driver available so no new updates.

Anyone know any solutions to this problem? Or maybe somone knows some other forums where I can get help?

This must be a 3rd party program which is interfearing with the data stream of the games, programs etc.

Thanks in advance :)

Are you using the utility software to launch any custom programs?

That may well be the diff, he didn't say what OS he was running thus if it isn't XP you have to installed the software to use the extra keys.

Sorry, forgot to mention my OS is Windows Xp Pro. Well, all hot-keys work without driver except the audiobuttons: play/pause, stop, next track and previous track.

Windows Media Player v9.0? Yeah, but I prefer to use Winamp to listen to mp3

Windows Media Player 9 Series rocks :D With regards your problem, I'm fairly sure it's not Intellitype per se, as it's quite commonly used, and if it caused this much trouble on all systems, then it would certainly have been spotted by now. I'll check with Microsoft for you and try and find out if there's a known problem involving Intellitype and some other software or configuration setting.

Kind Regards

I think you're right regarding that IntelliType driver. My friend uses the same drivers and it doesn't interfear with his games.
thx for you help, mate.

Hi vofflujarnid

This error is very hard to track down :p The closest I came was a problem relating to a conflict between the operating system's native hot keys and the Intellipoint software. This was in Windows ME, but the result was that applications could freeze, games could crash and error messages be produced. Anyway, the only real solution suggested was to plug the keyboard into a USB port, not a PS/2 port. If it's already in a USB port, try plugging it in another port. Quite what this achieves, I don't know, but it was supposed to help in the above situation, so it's perhaps worth a try.

Just one question, should the above not work, do you get any error messages upon the game(s) crashing? If so, could you post the relevant details?

Kind Regards

Hi jonty

My keyboard is PS/2 only I think. It came with no extension to switch from PS/2 to USB or vice versa. And when I start games with type32.exe running, they just crash to the destop but are still running and if I open them again, they just crash again.

regards
