I wanted a boomslang 1k for my 2nd PC, but GP have stoped doing them and only do the 2k now, and 2 reasons why i dont want the 2k, too pricey and too sensitive :)

So i was wondering if any of you have a boomslang 1k free and willing to sell it, or have any decent suggestions, I have a MS Exploere but it's utter gobshite :)

I really want the black MS Intellieye Wheel mouse thingy, but i cant seem to find it in black :/

I got a bs 1k as you know, new unopened and boxed. But it's not for sale as ya know... waiting for some rich pro gamer to buy it off me when theres none left :)

But seriously, boomslangs are shite, and I strongly suggest you don't get one, unless you already have one/used one.

Logitech or Microsoft are much better, try the Microsoft Intellimouse USB. You won't regret it :) and its only about a tenner. I'd never swop it for a boomslang anyday

I use the Logitech Optical Wheelmouse, and I really like it - I have big hands, so the huge size doesn't bother me (oh er missus). Pair it with a ratpad, and away you go:D.

Why would anyone choose a USB mouse over a PS2 one? Surely it relies on USB drivers (unavailable in DOS and certain Win95 flavours) to run.

What advantages does it have over PS2?

I'm just reaching the end of a very hard couple of weeks getting used to my new bs2k. I went from intelli-eye optical (white slug) to the bs2k. To say it felt weird and unusable is an understatement, but all these things are relative. It felt weird sure, cos I was used to something much different, but imo you don't know how poor a mouse can be until you campare it to something unimaginably better ..... and imo, the bs2k is unimaginably better than the alternatives. It's wwwwwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy more precise, much more responsive to quick movement and far easier to move generally. I use mine with an everglide and it's sweet.
I don't have any mouse to sell, but just giving a different opinion on the boomslangs. Respect to the boomslang! :)

Its what came with the system when I bought it.

already had taken the other keyboard back to work so was left with the USB one.

Seems to be ok so far - once it starts causing problems, I ll get a new decent one.

USB default rate is 100hz though? So you don't need to use PS2Rate or anything :)

I bought the USB version because I thought it'd be "newer" then the ps2 version, and also to fill up the redundant usb ports in my pc :)

It's a keyboard. It's a mouse.

Who do they need to be USB?

Someguy,

I dont know wtf you are talking about

The USB keyboard came with the machine.

It works.

Y do I need a new 1?

They don't. But the one advantage of USB mice & keyboards is that you can (after you've installed the drivers) plug them in after you've booted up your computer and they work, whereas PS2 mice & keyboards require a reeboot to work (I think)

I'm not suggesting you replace your USB keyboard/mouse with PS2 versions, I was wondering why people are choosing to buy USB keyboards/mice to replace their PS2/serial versions.

k gotcha.

Although I did choose USB connections for my printer and scanners (better all round connection than the parallel ports) I am yet to be convinced about USB mice/keyboards.

Printers/scanners/game controllers/digital camers etc... makes perfect sense to have them using USB ports, but when there are already dedicated sockets on all PCs for PS2 keyboards and mice, why the fuck would people want to have those ports empty, and two of the USB ports used instead?

Anybody?

Because USB mice are

a) more accurate than PS2 (higher refresh rate, excepting PS2rate, but who needs more crap running on startup?)

b) You can un plug and plug in a USB mouse to your hearts content. I find this especially useful when (for whatever reason) remote desktop dies on my server, and I can just whack in a usb kb/mouse and sort it out, without having to restart. Cos unless things have changed recently, PS2 mice need to be connected while the PC starts up.

USB keyboards are another matter...but hey...each to his own.

Fact is, serial/ps2 connections will be phased out in the next few years in favour of USB.

When you buy a new modem/NIC would you buy an ISA one, just because you a 'perfectly good' ISA slot or two on your mobo?

cheese

Okay...

Can't see USB replacing PS2 for keyboards/mice within the next 5 years, by which time USB will be long gone in favour of FireWire or whatever replaces that.

Still, each to their own.

Cheese is fine - cheap and readily available, yet lacks the transfer speeds and reliability I've come to expect through USB.

I ahve ausb mouse and keyboard.

The mouse i got for gaming its amazing.

THe keyboard? Well win2k doesnt like my ps2 ports so I had to use it.

SOmeguy win95? Really who uses that shite? And as for DOS, the keyboard works fine in dos, not sure about the mouse.

Your USB keyboard and mouse might work in DOS mode in Windows, but not pure DOS. Your argument stands, though. Who does use that shite?

Except, of course, for troubleshooting.
